The Pack

I woke up in the woods, covered with a flannel that wasnt mine, and surrounded by 2 people I didn't know. I looked at my hands that were covered in blood and started hyperventilating, only then noticing the people around me shared concerning looks with each other. A kind looking blonde girl got on the ground beside me, she grabbed my hands and told me everything was okay. I think I ended up passing out, because everything went dark. 

I woke up on a couch in a house I've never been in. I sat up, my body now covered in a hoodie and sweatpants. At the end of the couch sat the blonde girl from the woods, in my head I was screaming, but I kept my composure. After all, I was the one covered in blood while being uninjured myself. " Please don't freak out, everything is okay, I promise. " she smiled at me. " Did I kill someone " I whispered in disbelief. " No! Well, yes, but noone worth living! " she said trying to be reassuring. It wasn't. " Okay, listen, because this is going to sound unbelievable. " she said pulling her legs up on the couch and turning toward me. " Some people in this world get overcome by bad, bad magic. And people like you, and like the ones you're about to meet, we exist to rid those people of the world. " she started. " There was a spell cast over this home to make it appear not only empty but invisbile to any civilian. Only those chosen by the hide can  see the house and find the chest, after the hide choses you, you can see everything within the house. " she happily explains. " Magic? What's a hide? " I reply. " A hide is the spirit of the werewolf inside you, its physical form is the hide of your wolf. " she smiled kindly at me. " WEREWOLF??? I'm only 18 how could I be a werewolf? " I said jumping up off the couch. " What do you mean it's inside me? " I said in pure confusion. " Rieka, the wolf inside you, has been without a warrior for years. Longer than any of us have been apart of the pack anyway. She waited for you. And I know this is hard for you to grasp, but it'll be hard for the pack too. Rieka's the alpha, and we've never had one before " she said resting her head on her knee. 

A few hours passed full of questions, as time passed, the girl had introduced herself as Amelia and told me about the other wolves in the pack. She explained that my becoming a wolf would be an adjustment for everyone, as everyone felt different with now having an alpha. My brain throbbed as I tried to understand how this could possibly be real life. I took a deep breath and looked at Amelia. " So, what now? " I asked. " You'll have to move in of course, then you'll meet the pack and we'll have a little party for you! " she explained happily. " Move in? What about my family? " I asked. " We have a very convincing wolf in our pack, she'll visit your parents and explain the move is for some form of academic oppurtunity. " she replied. I nodded and looked around the room we were in. It was homey, very welcoming and calming. " Let me show you your room! I think it'll take your mind off everything, we can decorate it however you want " she smiled and pulled me up the stairs. I looked at the other rooms as we made our way to mine. My room had beautiful windows with empty book shelves, as I looked around the room I began to come to terms with everything. " Why am I not freaking out? I mean I just found out I'm a werewolf, an alpha at that, I killed someone, and I'm leaving my family " I said leaning against the doorframe. " It's your hide, she's calming you down. It's a good thing Taylor. You save people from bad magic, and you get a forever family with the pack " she said cheerfully. I nodded and walked around my room. " So, lets decorate! " she said with a smile.

After a few hours, trips to the store, and my house, we finally finished my room. Amelia and I had really gotten close over the course of the day, " thank you for being there for me today Amelia " I said sitting on my bed. " Of course! All the journals say that Rieka and Nokomis were sister wolves, so maybe it's just in our blood " she winked and sat next to me. " So, let's get ready for this party! The pack will be there obviously, and some people from school. I'll introduce you to the pack before the party, so I'll let you get ready. Aim to be ready in about an hour " she smiled and left my room. I took a deep breath and started getting ready. 

I walked downstairs and was seemingly the first one there, I went to the kitchen and grabbed a beer out of the fridge. It had been a long day, so a little pregrame seemed fair. I walked over to the couch and was met by Amelia and a tall brunette boy. I smiled at them both and took my seat. " I'm Taylor, it's nice to meet you " I smiled. " I'm Finley, and you too! " he returned the smile and went to grab a drink. Two more boys filtered down the stairs. " Hey, nice to see you settled into your hide, quite nicely too " he winked. I couldn't help but laugh, " I'm Taylor ". " Elliot " he replied smiling. The other boy looked at me, his eyes fluttered down my body, then met my eyes again. " Im Hayes ". " Taylor " I said and slightly lifted my drink toward him. He came and sat next to me, " So, how do you feel about your hide? " he said turning his body to me and resting his arm on the couch behind him. " It was hard to believe at first, but everything just feels like it's supposed to " I said taking a drink. " Bonding with your hide is really important, especially if your going to be alpha " he replied. I nodded with a small smile. Finley came around the corner and took his seat on the other side of me. " Don't scare her out of the pack yet, Hayes. We could use a little order around here " he chuckled. I took a deep breath and stood up. " Sooo, tell me more about everything, tell me about your hides and stuff " I said taking my seat again in the chair across from the couch. " My hide is Nokomis, meaning daughter of the moon. Not to brag, but I'm the most in tune with my wolf side " Amelia said sitting on the arm of the couch. " Hayes hide is Soren, he's the most strict of us. Finley's hide is Makari, he's the best fighter of the pack. Elliot has Alarick's hide, he's most brave. Hannah isn't here tonight but she has Aspen's hide, shes our loner. She's a great navigator and knows the forest like the back of her hand. And youuu Taylor have Rieka's hide, she's the most powerful hide and our alpha of course " 

I took everything in and nodded, " So, explain the whole alpha thing " I said taking another drink. " It's something that when you spend more time with the pack, will just feel natural. We'll all be drawn to you, and do anything to keep you protected. " Hayes replied. " Did I mention Hayes is quite the charmer " Amelia laughed to me quietly. I smiled at him and looked at Amelia, " So when's this party starting? "
