At four years old, Shoto's quirk showed. His left side catching fire, and his right side rushing to make ice. His quirk was the one Enji had been chasing for years. Half hot, half cold.Rei stood in horror at Shoto's fiery hand, her gaze traveling sideways to his cold one. He looked up with glowing eyes, only to have his face change to one of confusion when he saw his mother's face.
Next to Rei stood Enji, a look of pure shock on his face which quickly recovered, turning into one of evil and planning. He would start training Shoto a year later, giving his body time to recognize the quirk before beginning training when he turned five.
Away from the show of Shoto gaining his quirk, Touya sat in the hall. He pulled his knees up to his chest, laying his head on top of his knees.
He did it. He has the quirk.
He knew this was the end of his father's attention. All eyes would be focused on Shoto now. Touya knew his siblings were still asleep upstairs. He hadn't been to sleep yet. He couldn't sleep knowing Shoto's quirk would show itself soon. And it had. "Oh, it had."
He picked his head up and laid it back against the wall, his tired eyes focusing and unfocusing against his will. His eyes gave out and he felt his body relax, a tear sliping down his face as his body passed out from exhaustion.

Shoto's fifth birthday was spent doing anything other than what he honestly wanted to be doing.
He was pulled out of bed and made to eat a breakfast he found disgusting, but his father got mad if he didn't eat it. He forced it down, praying his mother would step into the kitchen and provide a sense of comfort as she usually did. Yet, she hadn't that morning.
That morning was the dual-haired boy's first expirience with his father's training room. The expirience being anything but pleasant. His father would send attacks at the boy, expecting him to do something to help himself. But he didn't. After all, he was a five year old kid. What was he supposed to do? He had no expirience with his quirk, and suddenly, being attacked second after second in the training room, he didn't want expirience with it.

After being given a break when his father went to do something, Shoto watched his siblings. He watched them playing and acting like the child he wished to be.
They laughed as Touya attempted to kick the ball up, but slipped and fell over. Natsuo's holding his stomach because of how hard he was laughing and Fuyumi covering her face to attempt to stifle her laughter. The three laughing, looking like they really do belong down there together.
Shoto watched out the window, the obvious odd one out. He never really understood what it was that seperated him from his siblings. Never understood why his father, Endeavor, always kept the small child away from his siblings. Didn't understand why it was that his oldest brother, Touya, looked at him with such hatred this past year or so.
His oldest brother's mind was something that Shoto would never understand, in reality. It was something none of the Todoroki family fully understood, even Touya himself. Something odd was always going on in that boy's brain.
Shoto got distracted by his father coming back. He grabbed Shoto's wrist pulling him along with him as he walked away; pulling him away from his siblings and their fun.
"Ignore them, Shoto. They live in a different world than the one I'm training you for." Enji grumbled as he pulled Shoto along.
Shoto tried to pull away to no avail. He was never able to escape Enji's cold grasp or long training sessions. He was forced to work his ass off more often than not and a slow, burning grudge started forming in the pits of his gut.
Hours went passed. Pulling the training late into the night. Grueling, long, worriesome training sessions. Taking hit after hit. Day after day, week after week, month after month.
It didn't matter what day, time, season, weather. Enji trained Shoto. Trained him for hours. Made him get used to long days even at the young age he was at now, claiming a hero had to be prepared for anything and that this training was neccesary.

Touya was furious these days. It was like the kid was always angry, itching for a fight or some kind of action. The only time this angered seemed to die down was when Touya was with Natsuo or Fuyumi.
Part of Touya's attitude seemed to be a kind of remorse for things he'd done in the past, such as lashing out at his mother, or attacking his youngest brother long ago. The oldest of the Todoroki children never seemed to get over these things, though everyone else did. However, those feelings of guilt were always stuffed away. He was loyal to his father before anything or anyone else.
One thing the white haired child seemed to never let go of was his training. Seketo Peak, the place where Enji Todoroki himself went to train when he was younger, was basically Touya Todoroki's second home by the tine he was ten. Of course, he was always training in secret because his father didn't allow him to use his quirk.
When Enji found out years ago that Touya was still trying to use his quirk he lashed out. He tried to get through to the oldest, telling him there was more for him than this. Telling him the burns and marks his quirk left on his body that wasn't made for his quirk weren't all there was.
"But I can't stop..." Touya had said, "..this is what you made me."
Touya looked up at his father, his eyes huge and pupils dialated. His father was taken aback, able to do nothing but stare at his oldest son.
"You ignited this fire in me... you made me believe I could do it. I was supposed to get strong," he would say, "and I was made to surpass All Might and become the number one hero."
The silence in the room was deafening. There was nothing. Enji was trying desperately to process what Touya was saying, and Rei had no words. Her baby was hurting himself for his father's attention.
Touya's body couldn't handle the quirk it was given, inheriting Rei's bodily genes yet Enji's quirk. The using of the quirk the boy was given left burns on his body, slowly burning his skin off his body if used too much. It would leave him with permanent damage if he continued on this path.
"Look at me..." he said, "Endeavor."
The boy's hand lit up in bright flames, launching itself in the direction of Rei, who was currently holding Shoto, the boy's youngest sibling.
