As the morning air carried the cool water droplets through the town Bella sat on a park bench. Knees folded up against her chest, arms wrapped around her legs, and a book leaning on her feet. As she rocked back and forth to the rhythm of the music flowing through her headphones, she would lift her head up ever so often to watch pedestrians walk by on their phone or with their children talking about things that you wouldn't understand if you didn't live with them. As Bella watched, easing back into the world, she watched the light from the sun pour through the sky illuminating every part of the land.
After what felt like only minutes to Bella, the color of the sky was no longer yellow from the sun. On the horizon a mix of orange, peach, purplish colors blending in beautiful swirls. Bella stood up from the park bench and began marching down the street. Whenever this happened Bella never had a set destination but no matter what she always ended up at the peer. From the edge of the peer she watched the murky swirls sink behind the waves. The bright see through water soon turned black and dark.
After a while Bella began trudging home through the dark taking as much time as possible. By the time she got home the lights were out and the only sounds to hear were her parents aggravated voices and an add on TV showing expensive jewelry. Bella took her coat off and slowly tried to climb the stairs without making a sound. Though of course the house had to tell on her. She had gotten about half way up the stairs before the step creaked beneath her weight and made a crack. Bella swore under her breath at the old house. "Bella is that you? Get down here now" the raspy voice of her mother called out. "Now Bella"
Bella was used to getting yelled at for staying out late so when she had gotten back down stairs and sat down, she slumped into her chair making sure to get comfortable. Bella got the usual speech and she responded in her usual way. By the end of her mom's speech, her mom was more upset and Bella was tired. "That's it I have had it with you. You are an ungrateful, no good, horrible child. You have no manners and no respect and I'm not dealing with it anymore. I've had this conversation with you to many times. I'm done with it, get out of my house."
