In the quaint flower shop, the atmosphere was serene, adorned with vibrant blooms that Neo meticulously arranged. Each flower seemed to carry a piece of his emotions-love, sorrow, and a lingering sense of betrayal. As he carefully placed each bloom, his hands moved with a precision that belied the storm raging within him.
The soft chime of the door disrupted Neo's focus, and he looked up to see Mark entering. Immediately, a frown marred Neo's features, his expression hardening at the sight of the man who had once held a significant place in his heart.
"We're out of lilies today," Neo stated curtly, his voice laced with an underlying tension as he busied himself with another bouquet, avoiding Mark's gaze.
"I'm not here for flowers today, Neo," Mark replied softly, his tone tinged with sadness.
"Then you can leave," Neo shot back coldly, his hands working mechanically as he tried to maintain his composure.
Mark hesitated, his eyes pleading as he took a tentative step closer. "Can we talk, please, Neo?"
"I'm busy, Mark," Neo responded sharply, his voice betraying the hurt simmering beneath the surface.
"Neo, please, when will you stop being angry at me?" Mark's voice cracked with desperation, his anguish palpable.
"Mark, please stop it. It's over between us," Neo said with finality, his voice tinged with sorrow. The memories flooded back-the pain, the betrayal, and the shattered trust that Mark had left in his wake.
Mark's resolve wavered, tears welling up in his eyes. "I didn't betray you or Khaotung, Neo. It was my job," he pleaded, his voice trembling with guilt and regret. "You have to believe me. It was never personal."
Neo's hands stilled momentarily, his jaw clenched as he struggled with conflicting emotions. The image of Khaotung, vulnerable and broken in a hospital bed, flashed through Neo's mind. He remembered the anguish of seeing someone he loved suffer because of the actions of those he once trusted, including Mark.
"Your job? Really, Mark?" Neo's voice cracked with emotion, his eyes burning with unshed tears. "Khaotung was in a coma for three days, and you can't imagine the pain he's going through because of you guys."
Mark's expression twisted with sorrow as he listened, the weight of Neo's words settling heavily upon him. He moved closer, reaching out tentatively. "Neo, please, I'm sorry, but it wasn't us or our boss's fault," he pleaded, his voice barely above a whisper. "You have to understand, I never meant for any of this to happen."
"But you lied to me, Mark. I loved you," Neo confessed, his voice thick with emotion. The pain of betrayal mingled with the remnants of affection he still felt, a tumultuous blend of hurt and longing.
Mark's tears spilled over, his own pain mirrored in his eyes as he struggled to find the right words. "I know, Neo. I know I hurt you, and I'm so sorry," he choked out, his voice laden with remorse. "But please, just give me a chance to make things right."
Neo turned away, unable to bear the intensity of Mark's gaze. His heart ached with the weight of unresolved emotions, the wounds still fresh despite the passage of time. "Mark, leave. I don't want to see you," he whispered hoarsely, the finality of his words hanging heavy in the air.
