Isla Mercer (Four Brothers)

Prologue

September 2005
Isla P.O.V
As I was making my bed I had to pick something up and I had hit my head on my dresser ' Ay Dios mio ' I said as I was rubbing the back of my head. When I was done cleaning my room I went down stairs, as I was walking down one of the girls said ' Hey Goya, go get some food for us ' her and her friends started laughing. I didn't understand anything else than food so I went into the kitchen and there was no food so I walked out the building to get food at the little store across the street.

Evelyn's P.O.V
I was in the store coming in here for bread when the door bell jingled I looked up and this little girl walked through. She had a paper in her hand and she walked up to the cashier asking for something but I think it was in a different language. He had started laughing and saying ' We're in a America, speak English ' and he had went back to playing on his phone. She had looked as she didn't understand him so she asked again and he said ' Listen beaner, I have no idea what you're saying' I have had enough of this. I walking over to them and stood next to the confused girl and said to the cashier ' How dare you say such racial words to a girl that just asked you a question. Poor thing doesn't even know what's going on and she just wants to know where something is. ' He just rolled his eyes and went back to his phone, I just huffed and turned around to look at the girl just to see her looking at the ground with her head down and hands behind her back. ' Lo siento, lo siento ' she had kept saying that over again. I had tapped her shoulder and she looked up at me.

Isla P.O.V
When I looked up at the nice lady she had given me a smile and started saying stuff I couldn't understand. I guess I had a confused face because she then pointed at the paper the girls at the building had given me. I then nodded and with the best English is said ' Where..food ' she had took my paper and then started walking around the store with me following her.

Evelyn's P.O.V
When we were done with the list I saw her walking away. It was cold tonight so I stopped her and pointed to my car. She looked hesitant but ended up taking the offer. She showed me where she lived and it was quiet and I had asked for her name. She didn't know what i said so I pointed at me and said ' Evelyn ' and then she pointed at herself and said ' Isla ' when we got there she opened the door and said ' Muchas gracias senorita Evelyn y buenas noches ' I didn't know what she said and she than said ' Thank... good... night... evelyn' and then she walked inside the building.

October 2005

Evelyn's P.O.V
Ever since that day I have seen Isla at the store and had given her a ride every time. Over the time she had learned some more English and I have learned some Spanish. Every time I drop her off at the foster building I hear some kids calling her names. She looks sad but just ignores them, one day I walked into the foster care system to adopt Isla. I was talking to person to the person in charge said she was going to get Isla. When Isla came down she look annoyed but when she saw me she smiled and starting jogging to give me a hug. I had sat her down next to me and the person in charge starting explaining the adoption to her like she was a baby. I knew Isla knew some English words to know what was going on, she looked at me with big eyes and when I nodded she screamed and ran up the stairs to get her stuff.

Isla P.O.V
With all my stuff in Miss.Evelyn's car, we left. When we got the house she had pointed at my shoes and said 'Off' so I took my shoes off and she sat my down for dinner. As I waited she told me to set up the table which I did and when she sat down she took my hands and started saying stuff and then did the cross motion on her chest and started eating. When I was eating I had asked her a question ' Pray... to.... Dios' she nodded but then told me to close my mouth and take my elbows off the table. When dinner was done she led me to a room and told me to go the sleep. As I layed down I was thinking about this house as my new home.
