The morning air was crisp as I pedaled my bike through the neighborhood, greeting everyone I passed. "Mornin', Mrs. Johnson!" I called out to the elderly lady watering her garden." Good Morning" She waved back with a smile.
"Hey, Coogie!" some kids playing basketball yelled.
"What's good, lil' dudes!" I shouted back, popping a wheelie for good measure. They laughed and cheered as I rode on.
My bike was my freedom, a way to escape and just be myself.
I stopped at the corner store to grab a snack. Mr. Patel and his son, Raj, were behind the counter as usual. "Mornin', Mr. Patel. Raj, how y'all doin'?" I greeted them.
"Mornin', Coogie! The usual?" Mr. Patel asked with a grin.
"You know it," I replied, grabbing a bag of chips and a soda. "How's business?"
"Can't complain. How's school?" Raj asked.
"It's school," I said with a shrug. "Same ol'."
As I left the store, munching on my chips, I spotted Kasani walking towards school. She looked like she was deep in thought, her brows furrowed.
"Yo, Sani!" I called out, riding up to her.
She looked up and smiled. "Hey, C."
"What's good with you?" I asked, pulling out a five-dollar bill.
" Nothing, just thinking" She responded
"Here, get yo'self somethin' nice."
She shook her head. "Nah, I can't take that."
