Carter sat in his dimly lit room as the flowers just delivered a few hours ago started to conquer his room's scent.

He had already spent the morning and afternoon scouring job listings, applying anywhere he is capable of, from barista positions to retail jobs.

His funds were dwindling hour by hour and his desperation grew every minute. He will do anything just to sustain himself. He needed something stable.

The idea of Vincent struck him down. Despite Alex's warnings, Vincent's offers were resurfacing. Even harder now that he's face to face with desperation.

Not long after a deep breath, he picked up the business card laid down on the table and called the man.

He was anxious. His blood ran as fast as his nerves were getting to him. Tension was rising every second he heard Vincent's voice and it terrified him to his very core.

The next day, Carter and Vincent met at a fancy restaurant. Now Carter didn't know, as seen by his informal attire, was extremely embarrassed by his outfit.

Vincent was adorned with formality that he could feel himself folding just by being around the man.

The place exuded elegance and sophistication that he seldom witnesses. He feels so out of place if it wasn't for Vincent.

The table was decorated elegantly. There was already a bottle of champagne and a moody flower vase filled with roses that amplified the romantic vibes of the place.

Vincent was already at the table looking at Carter as he walked in observing the details of the fancy restaurant.

"Carter, have a seat please." Vincent stood up and moved the chair so Carter would be able to sit.

Carter could only look up at the massive crystal chandelier that costs more than his life, and it's probably only 0.1% of what Vincent could waste his money on.

Once they were seated, Vincent started the conversation.

"I'm glad you made up your mind." Vincent said. "I knew you'd make the right decision."

Carter only laughed and stared at the cutlery in front of him.

"You know, I would love to give you a place at the lounge. I know how you're struggling financially and I would be so delighted to help." The man said.

"How did you know?" Carter asked. This ever so slightly caught Vincent off guard however it wasn't enough to be noticed.

"That's not important. What's important is that you agree working for me. I would love to have you in my place, Carter." Vincent said as he held Carter's hands.

Carter was silent and Vincent caught on. He found hesitancy in Carter's eyes as he redirected his eyes just to avoid Vincent's.

"I understand you, Carter. It's hard to trust someone you know nothing about but opportunities like this rarely happen here in Hempstead." Vincent tried persuading.

"Think of the things you could achieve. The performances you can give. The music you can sing." Vincent once again tried. "You have talent. I can give you anything you want."

And not long after, they enjoyed their expensive meal which Vincent paid. It has been awhile since Carter has ate something as good.

Carter had plunged but doubt and wariness still lingered. When he called Alex later that evening, his reaction was immediate.

"Are you sure about this? I still don't trust him."

"I know but I really need the money and he's been the only one who would consider me." Practicality won against apprehension.

"Okay. But make sure you stay away from trouble."

"I will."

As he hang up, he looks at the bouquet of flowers at the table. Only time can tell which Vincent he would prove to be.
