When the chamber was finally cleared, the heavy doors closing with a final thud, silence fell.

Maegor stepped forward, his boots echoing on the polished stone floor. He came to stand behind Alicent and placed a hand gently on her arm.

She turned to him slowly, her brown eyes wide but calm.

His crimson gaze searched hers, steady and quiet. “How are you feeling?”

Alicent gave a small smile, though her breath was still shallow. “Well, Your Grace.”

He watched her closely. “Are you still in pain?” he asked, softer now. There was a flicker of concern behind his voice he hadn’t forgotten the roughness of last night, or how deeply they had touched.

She lowered her gaze, cheeks flushed faintly. “A little,” she admitted, voice quiet. “But it was… worth it. More than I imagined. I never thought you'd actually choose to marry me.”

Maegor’s expression softened. “I had a good reason,” he murmured. “And you were worth it.”

Alicent looked up at him again, her smile faint but full. “You honor me, Your Grace.”

He exhaled slowly. “Call me Maegor.”

She blinked in surprise. “What?”

His eyes narrowed slightly, amused. “That’s what you called me in the dark, didn’t you?”

Embarrassed, Alicent looked away, biting back a grin. “I’ll try.” She giggled softly, the tension between them breaking like a wave on warm sand.

Maegor stepped closer, his voice lower. “I owe you an apology,” he said. “For the way I’ve treated you in the past. I’ve been… harsh. Crude. Unkind.”

She looked up at him, touched by the admission.

“I wasn’t innocent either,” Alicent said gently. “I was bitter… and sharp-tongued. I thought you were heartless. I never imagined… this.”

He gave a small nod. “I just want you to know,” he began, “I didn’t choose you out of pity, or out of obligation. I chose you because I trust you. Because despite your fire, you’ve shown me something real.”

He paused, the words heavier now.

“I care for you, Alicent. And while love has never come easily to me… I will learn. I want to learn. For you.”

Alicent’s breath caught in her throat. She hadn’t expected this kind of honesty from him, not from the man known as the Dragon of the Crown.

She stepped closer, looking into his eyes. “I feel safe with you,” she whispered. “And I want to stay there. Forever. Until death claims us both. If you’ll learn to love me, then I will love you,as long as I have breath.”
