Taylor woke up to the gentle sunlight streaming through the lace curtains of her bedroom, the warmth of the morning glow slowly pulling her from the embrace of sleep. She stretched, feeling a crack from her back causing her to let out a quiet moan of relief as the tension in her back melted away. As she turned to look at the digital clock on her nightstand, the numbers 7:15 AM blinked back at her. It was early, but Ivy, her three-year-old daughter, would be awake soon, and Taylor wanted to enjoy a few moments of calm before the day's chaos began.
Slipping out of bed, Taylor padded quietly down the hallway of her spacious but cozy home. She loved this house, nestled in the hills away from the prying eyes of paparazzi and fans. Here, she could just be Taylor, the mother, rather than Taylor, the singer. She entered the kitchen, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee already filling the air thanks to the automatic coffee maker she had set the night before. Pouring herself a mug, she took a long sip, savoring the warmth of the familiar liquid.
As if on cue, she heard the soft pitter-patter of tiny feet against the hardwood floor. Ivy, her blonde, curly-haired bundle of energy, appeared in the doorway, her favorite stuffed bunny clutched in one hand and her other hand rubbing her eyes. "Mommy," she said in a sleepy voice, a small smile spreading across her face before she ran the last few steps and crashed into Taylor's legs, pale arms wrapping around the backs of her thighs.
"Good morning, sweetie," Taylor said, setting her mug down and wrapping her arms around Ivy's shoulders. She scooped her daughter into her arms, pressing a kiss to her forehead. "Did you sleep well?"
Ivy nodded, her curls bobbing. "I had a dream about bunnies," she said, holding up her stuffed bunny as if to prove her point.
Taylor laughed softly, her heart swelling with love. "That sounds like a wonderful dream." She carried Ivy to the kitchen table, setting her down in her booster seat. "How about some pancakes for breakfast? With lots of strawberries and whipped cream?"
Ivy's eyes lit up, and she clapped her hands. "Yes, please!"
As Taylor busied herself making breakfast, she kept an eye on Ivy, who was happily chattering away about her dream and what she wanted to do today. It was a Saturday, a rare day off for Taylor during her tour, and she intended to make the most of it. Balancing her career with motherhood was never easy, but moments like these made the many challenges worth it.
After breakfast, Taylor and Ivy spent the morning playing in the living room. Ivy loved building towers with her blocks, and Taylor delighted in watching her daughter's imagination come to life. They built a colourful castle, complete with sparkly pink drawbridge, and Ivy's stuffed animals took on the roles of knights and princesses, soon causing the castle to break back into blocks once again after their battle. Taylor could hear her phone buzzing a few times with work-related messages, but she ignored them, determined to give Ivy her undivided attention after the business of her shows for the past few weeks.
Around mid-morning, they headed outside to the backyard. It was a beautiful day, the sky a clear, vibrant blue. Taylor watched as Ivy ran around, picking flowers from a pot and collecting rocks into the pockets of her denim shorts, going unnoticed by Taylor who was just as busy trying to make her own flower bouquet beside Ivy. This was the life she cherished, far removed from the flashing cameras and red carpets. Here, she could wear her jeans and a T-shirt, her wild hair down free, blowing into her face from the wind, and just be the best mom she could be to Ivy.
"Mommy, look!" Ivy called, holding up a dandelion. "Make a wish!"
Taylor smiled, wrapping her palm around Ivy's closed fist to bring the dandelion closer to her face. She closed her eyes, making a silent wish for Ivy's happiness and health, before blowing the seeds into the wind. Ivy giggled, chasing after the floating seeds.
