Emersyn ignored the sweat dripping from what felt like every inch of her skin as she continued to rep out push-ups.

She had gotten used to the feeling of being hot a long time ago. Her time overseas fighting in wars saw to that.

But the fire now swimming in her veins almost threw that tolerance out the window.

Reaching an even number in her head, Emersyn finished a final push-up and then stood up to her full height.

Bobbing her head to the music blasting in the single headphone resting in her right ear Emersyn made her way over to a small table where her phone and a water bottle sat.

As the woman chugged her ice-cold water she picked up her phone to see if she had any messages.

Out of nowhere, Emersyn was mysteriously sucked through a portal that sparked around its edges.

----------------

Falling through what she could only assume was the other side of the portal, Emersyn roughly landed on a carpeted floor.

No longer feeling the belongings she was previously holding, Emersyn started to look around. However, she was met with something much more surprising than a fallen water bottle.

Squinting her eyes just in case, Emersyn called out, "Rhodes? Tony?"

From their place just starting to stand up, both men whipped their heads in the direction of the woman's voice. Ignoring everything else around them, James Rhodes and Tony Stark beelined towards Emersyn.

Meeting the two in the middle, Emersyn immediately asked, "What the hell is going on?" Rhodes looked around in confusion as Tony responded, "No fucking clue. But do you need a jacket? Because you don't have a full shirt on right now."

As one of her best friends brought attention to her state of clothing Emersyn cringed.

Since she had been working out Emersyn was wearing a long-sleeved cropped shirt and shorts. She had been alone, so the clothes that exposed her more gnarly scars didn't bother her. Nobody was going to see anything.

That didn't apply so much now that she was in a room full of mostly strangers.

Looking Tony in the eye Emersyn nodded and whispered, "Yes, please." Tony nodded back at her and then lightly hit Rhodes's arm. Turning back to his friends the other man asked, "Yeah?" Tony gestured towards a stone-faced Emersyn and whispered, "Give her your jacket." Without question, Rhodes took off his dark blue Air Force jacket he happened to be wearing and handed it over to Emersyn.

As Emersyn dawned on the jacket she saw a flash of red hair across the room. Knowing instantly that it wasn't Pepper, she said, "Natasha?"

Hearing her name, Natasha Romanoff turned away from her quiet conversation with Clint Barton. Seeing the older dark-haired woman she replied, "Emersyn?"

The men standing by each of the women wore expressions full of confusion. All at once they asked, "How do you two know each other?"

Emersyn and Natasha shared one glance before saying, "Work."

Before the men could ask the questions that instantly sparked in their minds, a few more voices reached their ears.

Turning her head to the left, Emersyn saw people she knew but had never met most of.

Steve Rogers.

Thor.

Loki.

Bruce Banner.

Nick Fury.

Maria Hill.

Everyone looked at one another in the same amount of confusion. However, their attention was all drawn to the same place as a man nobody knew suddenly asked, "Now how the hell am I in a room with the Avengers and the guy that brought them together?"

After most of said Avengers sent a glare to Loki, which he rolled his eyes at, Steve ended up being the one to speak. With a calm tone, he answered, "None of us know how we got here either. Sorry."

Before any more questions could be asked, a portal that sparked just like the one that had taken each of them opened up in one of the walls.

A man wearing blue robes and a flowing red cape floated through the portal.

Not giving anyone time to freak out or question him, the man said, "None of you know me yet, but my name is Stephen Strange. I am the one that brought all of you here."

Crossing her arms over her chest, Emersyn had no hesitance in asking, "Why?"

Stephen made brief eye contact with the woman before looking between everyone else in the room.

Answering, he said, "The future of the world is, to say the least, not good. The Avengers, and others who will join along the way, can stop it. But not without sacrifice."

This time Steve is the one to ask, "What kind of sacrifice?"

Stephen takes a deep breath. "After reversing the deaths of half of all life in the universe, the deaths of two original members of the Avengers."

Out of the corner of her eye, Emersyn saw Tony instantly tense up at Stephen's words.

Seeing that everyone had been stunned into silence, Stephen swallowed and then said, "I have brought you all here to change the future." Holding out an arm to his right, where a theater screen happened to be, he continues, "When I leave a compilation of your lives in the future will play out in the form of movies. From those, you will learn all you need to know."

Pinching the bridge of his nose, Tony couldn't help but pipe up and say, "Before I have an aneurysm and a heart attack I just have to say... what the fuck?!"

Stephen shook his head at Tony. Mostly ignoring the man he continued, "Do some basic introductions for Emersyn and Sam. After that you can sit down and the movies will start automatically."

Strange didn't wait for anyone to speak as he opened another portal and walked through it.

Letting out a sigh, Emersyn took a single step forward. Leaving her arms over her chest she waved one hand and said, "I'm Emersyn. Emersyn Rafe. You all don't actually have to introduce yourselves. I know who you are." She then turned to the only person in the room who she didn't know. Raising an eyebrow she asked, "I'm gonna take a shot in the dark and say that you're Sam?"

The African American man that she had spoken to nodded in confirmation. Having to peel his eyes away from the woman, Sam looked between everyone else as he said, "I'm Sam Wilson. I don't need the introductions either. Also, still don't really know why I'm here."

Emersyn and Tony both snorted at Sam's last statement while Rhodes rolled his eyes at them both.

With less talking needed from the group, everyone started to find their seats.

Clint, Natasha, Nick Fury, and Maria all went to the left side of the room.

Thor and Loki chose to go to the left as well, but they were closer to the top corner.

Bruce and Steve sat a few seats apart on the right side of the room with Sam sitting two rows above them.

Tony, Rhodes, and Emersyn sat in three seats in the middle of the room.

As the trio sat down and the light dimmed Emersyn couldn't help but whisper, "I don't know what everyone else was thinking. The middle is the best place for watching movies."

Rhodes, who sat to her left, nodded in agreement. Tony, who was on her right, whispered back, "I know right."
