A young boy stirred from under All Might themed bed sheets—a mess of curly green hair poking from above the top of the heap. As the boy opened his eyes and pushed back the sheets, he started his day with a smile. His smile could brighten entire worlds, he was a boy of large dreams despite circumstance, and a world pinned against him for something he couldn't control.
Midoriya Izuku was born without a quirk. At the ripe age of five, he was told by a doctor that he would never develop a quirk. He has two joints in his pinky toe, the tell-tale of a quirkless individual. A hero needed power. In his mind he knew this, and yet, wouldn't it be possible for somebody to make it work without a quirk? Did one truly need to have a quirk in order to become a hero, to save people?
Two light knocks hit his door before a sweet voice pipes in. "Izuku, breakfast is ready." Izuku's mother called out to him from the hall.
"I'll be right there!" Midoriya responded lightly, without any weight to his voice. He was quick to put on his uniform and put his notebook in his bag. He was always excited to head off to class, well, more or less. He didn't entirely enjoy being around his classmates, but he didn't hate school. He stepped from his room with a smile still plastered on his lips.
Middle school is every kid's nightmare. His problems are no worse than any others. It's natural he's never told his mother about anything that had happened to him. He makes sure she's not aware. She is the kind of mother who constantly worries. He and his mother have a close relationship, and it would hurt her to know everything. Plus, Izuku doesn't find anything at school to be too difficult a thing to deal with. It's not as if any of the words said mean anything.
As his mother, Inko Midoriya, set down a plate for her son, she smiled back at him. "How was our rest? Did you get that project done for class?" Izuku nodded as the plate was set before him, full of eggs and toast made exactly as he liked it. His smile never falters or so much as softens. He's always got this look of joy and childhood innocence in his emerald eyes—this unique kind of sparkle. It often reminds Inko of how she had once looked before she had married.
"Mhm! I always sleep well! I made sure to finish everything before writing some more in my notebooks." One of Izuku's most present hobbies is collecting information on heroes to use as references. The notebooks serve as his personal guide to being a hero. He makes sure they are always up to date with rankings, quirk information, and updated records of hero costumes. Of course, some heroes get a lot more attention than others, one of which is his favorite, All Might, the symbol of peace.
As Izuku finished his food and set his plate in the dishwasher, his mother handed him his lunch, and with a slight hum, wished him off to school. "Have a good day at school!" This was their routine, she was a busy woman, but never too busy. While she had to pull them from Izuku's childhood home years ago, she made enough to keep them afloat. She didn't focus on making more than needed, she was making up for an absent father. A man away on a business trip... A lie that everybody believes. She's not sure how that stuck, Hisashi working overseas for so many years. She wonders if Izuku remembers his face—recalls him at all. She doesn't hang pictures on the wall, or keep old family albums anywhere. Izuku looks almost exactly like her, though she sometimes wonders, if Izuku's hair were white he may look more like his father than she'd like to admit.
Izuku made his way to school that day as usual. He prepped himself up to be ready for what the day would bring. He thought of all the comments and remarks that would be made at him, the snickering, the things tossed at him during class and the blind eye the teacher would have towards all of it. These were normal torments for him in his life. Ever since he was diagnosed as quirkless, the class never reached out to him as a support system. No, he became the laughingstock, but it's okay. None of it bothers him! He's Midoriya Izuku, a boy who always smiles in the face of challenges! Even through tears, he has to smile! Just like his favorite hero! All Might always smiles, so he, to be the best hero he can be, must also smile no matter the situation.
