Prologue

Kenzie's POV
Kenzie's legs plowed through the cold snow, Rosie fallowing close behind they have been going on for hours now. Rosie leads then Kenzie leads, after they fled their village Kenzie and Rosie have been walking for hours on end, no shelter, nor food. "I-I can't survive this much longer.." Rosie cried stopping for a break, "neither can I..." Kenzie huffed, a sudden cold breeze struck sending the snow up into the air, "wha.." Rosie started "oh no... Blizzard!" Kenzie cried. They took off continuing to plot through snow, "I-I'm too cold!" Rosie groaned "there's a house in the distance if we get there quickly we can make it to s-safety!" Kenzie said leaning Rosie's arm on her shoulder. A sudden movement in the distance made Kenzie drop down, "what?" Rosie whispered
"there's someone up there..."
"Oh.." Rosie peeked up over the snow bank and saw two figures moving around in the distance not to far from the house. "One seems to be running from the other" Rosie shivered,
"well... should we try crawling to the house?" Rosie nodded "sure.."
They started crawling towards the building. They both suddenly stopped when they heard the snow crunching underfoot, "s-someone's there" Rosie whispered, Kenzie sighed. "WHO THERE?" a male's voice cried from above them, "SELOZAR!" He cried, "yes?" Another voice whispered this one was much softer and spoke in a scared tone, "GO LOOK" the first growled. Kenzie heard feet pat the snow and they two black legs as they jumped down into their little crawl space, "hello?" He mumbled, "he seems okay.. as in he won't hurt us." Rosie said, Kenzie quickly put a hand over her mouth and shushed her. Kenzie then heard the sound of a sword being pulled out, "uh oh.." Rosie said, Kenzie facepalmed and mouthed 'Run' Which Rosie understood and took off between their legs. Rosie was good at running quick on her hands and knees as for Kenzie could put not for long, she noticed that the black person had fallen over and she made a run for it. Dodging a sword that came a bit too close to hitting her. "ROSIE!?" She cried, she heard a muffled scream and a thump come from the woods, oh no... Kenzie thought. Jumping into the snow bank she ran as quickly as her tired legs would take her into the forest she saw Rosie kicking and screaming as the black man held her to a tree, he looked... sad. Wait.. Sad? Why? She shook her head and ran diving down to trip him, it worked although he fell onto her and went sliding with her, onto an ice lake.

SNAP!
The ice broke and both the man and Kenzie tumbled into the freezing war, he flung his arms around trying to swim and failing at it. "SELOZAR!" the other voice angrily bellowed from the trees, Kenzie looked at the black man named Selosar who was trying to tread water but kept falling back under, she felt a bit of pity for him he had cuts and scars all over his body which he seemed to be abused in his sad mood, so maybe I wasn't imagining him being sad earlier she thought. She grabbed ahold to his arm and swam to shore trying not to go under the freezing water. "T-thank you.." he looked up at her with relief in his eyes "SELOZAR!" The voice bellowed again, "yes!?" He said scrambling up and slipping down again. "There you!" The voice said again he had grey skin and grey sweater and pants the sweater had an eye on it which Kenzie  winced when she saw it, she also noticed the abnormally large sword on his back. "Who this?" He growled at Selozar "I-I'm Kenzie" she muttered "oh yes yes!" He grinned revealing shark like teeth, "friend of you name Rosie said you were Kenzie!" He said in his broken English "and uh who are you?" She asked
"Oh right! Me Alone_Traveler but you call me Alone!" Alone smiled he swiftly turned and left holding Selozar by the arm.

"KENZIE!" Rosie screamed chasing after her, "what?" She snapped her head around, "I-I think they live in that house..." she panted
"really? Well let's go!" They galloped towards the house, Rosie stopped and knocked on the door,
CRASH!
it came from upstairs "SELOZAR!" Alone screeched "GET DOWN HERE!"
Thump, thump, thump, the sound of feet running down stairs. The door suddenly swung open "oh! Rosie! Kenzie! Yes yes hello!" He said quickly "uh hi.." Rosie sighed
"What need?" He asked
"Um we were wondering.. we cannot survive out there and we're both starving.." Kenzie stopped herself and coughed
"Oh dear! Yes yes! Come in! You sick? Yes! Hypothermia!" He said rushing them to sit down on the couch, Kenzie looked up at him surprised to know he could say such a long word in his broken English. Selozar placed two cups of tea down in front of them which smelled of honey and mint "drink" Alone calmly ordered. Kenzie quietly picked up the tea and took a sip, Rosie doing the same, "good? Yes?" He asked "yeah" Rosie mumbled
"good good!" Alone looked at them and gave another toothy grin. "Now you must sleep, yes? Must be much tired you?"
"Yeah..." Kenzie sighed
"Yes yes! We have room upstair!" He swung around and toppled upstairs "Fallow!" He called. The girls got up and went into a small room, it had dirty corners with spider webs on the ceiling. Two mattresses laid on floor next to each other, "here!" He said, "thank you" they smiled and laid down. Kenzie thought about the couple of days that went by without sleep, when they were ten their parents became a part of the army fighting off monsters and other kingdom's troops that was until their mother was shot dead at battle one day... their father became a alcoholic after that. one night at the bar their father got in a argument and shot someone he was sent to jail and Rosie and Kenzie fled the town since if both parents could not care for their children the village would kill them. That happened a week ago, Rosie tried to explain to their neighbours (who were the ones to told them to leave) that they were twelve and almost thirteen they probably wouldn't get killed but their neighbours disagreed and sent them off.. they were nice.
