Another tiring day working this goddamn job. Don't get me wrong, I like being a police officer, it has been my dream job since forever, protecting citizens and reinforcing the law is my duty, but with every perk comes a flaw.
And this woman standing yet again in front of me is that flaw.
I've been working as a police officer for 5 years now and never in my entire career have I dealt with someone so exhaustingly uncooperative. Naturally, I had some criminals running away and using violence, but her? She's on a whole new level.
My shift ended 30 minutes ago and I was about to head home, I didn't drive to work today because I needed to walk more since I've been pretty lazy lately, it was only a 20-minute walk. On my way home, I spotted a medium brown-haired girl writing something on the wall, I immediately knew it was the girl from the previous night. The reason why I had recognized her was not because I thought of her all night long, nor because her clothes were so revealing that I studied every inch of her body. It's a police thing, we are trained to know exactly how to describe a criminal to guarantee we catch the right person, I'm not some pervert who stares at a woman's exposed body, even if that woman in question looks absolutely divine under the city lights. My parents taught me well enough.
I stand behind her as she writes her delinquent quote and cross my arms, waiting for her to finish and notice me like I did yesterday. She then turns around and I can see those deep blue eyes looking at mine with an awkward smile painted on her glossy pink lips, for the 10-minute interaction we had last night, I can already tell that when she awkwardly smiles, it means she got caught. I smirk to myself but keep a stoic look. Gotcha.
-"School kills artists..." I read what she wrote. "Someone's holding a grudge," I say tilting my head down to look at her.
-"Oh hi mister officer". She says in a seductive voice. What a flirty delinquent, I thought. I can proudly say her flirting skills won't work on me. Ever.
-"I think you didn't learn your lesson yesterday when I explained to you what vandalism was."
-"Vandalism?" She cocked her head and frowns her perfectly shaped brows in confusion.
-"Yeah, the thing I caught you doing yesterday."
-"I have no idea what you're talking about, are you lost again?" She winks. That damn wink. Is this girl trying to gaslight me? Does she take me for an illiterate dumbass?
-"Quit the jokes. You ran away from me, you should be thankful I didn't chase you, those legs of yours are pretty fast, but I can assure you it would be no trouble to run after you and successfully catch you."
-"Yeah what I did yesterday was pretty badass, but the past is in the past." She shrugs and makes it sound like a humble battle accomplishment.
-"And your little writing here sure is the present." I look again at the quote she wrote.
-"What? School DID kill me. I'm just stating facts."
I sigh. I can't believe I'm debating with some girl who doesn't seem to understand what I'm trying to say, even when I say it explicitly. And mostly I hate how she talks so confidently and normally like she's telling the obvious. It's driving me crazy.
-"Whatever background you're coming from is none of my business." I almost mean it, I don't care about her or her life, but I'm quite curious how she ended up being the way she is.
-"Are you taking revenge and arresting me?" She says in a mocking tone, she sticks her wrists together. "Is mister officer gonna cuff me with those shiny tight handcuffs? Oh, but I don't see any, looks like I'm getting off the hook today." She continues with a pouty expression as she proceeds to mock me. Never in my life have I wanted to humble a woman and take her down, but there she was, in front of me.
I look her dead in the eye and she laughs, I don't flinch, I don't care if her teeth were the ones shining as the sun set down, forming the prettiest smile I have witnessed in my 27 years of living on this planet.
-"Consider yourself lucky my shift is done and all I want to do is to go home, I could be calling a colleague and taking you to the police station, but I wanna do it myself."
-"Then do it." She smirks and winks again. Gosh, she makes me go feral.
-"Okay." I quickly grab her wrist and start walking her with me in the opposite direction.
-"Yo woah woah I was joking..." She tries to slow down with her feet. "Jeez, you don't know what's sarcasm or what?"
-"I thought you sounded pretty thrilled to get arrested." I turn around and stop, still holding her wrist firmly enough so she doesn't try to run away again.
-"I'm sorry..." She says, "Well thank you, officer, how nice of you to let me go". She says in a flirty and smooth voice.
-"I never said I wouldn't arrest you next time I see you."
-"And here I thought we could be friends." She pouts and looks down at her held wrist and I let go of her, she scoffs, then looks at me again. "Anyways what's your name officer? Or do you like it when I simply call you by your title?"
I think for a moment before answering. Why did I answer you may ask? Even I don't know.
-"It's Officer Robinsonn."
-"Your first name is Officer? Damn, your parents set goals for you when you were born, can't say you didn't make them proud, officer Officer Robinsonn."
She's either mentally leveled stupid or highly right-brained. Or simply here to annoy the shit out of me thinking she's funny. Which is working.
-"Max Robinsonn, that's my name so you won't keep me the victim of your teasings. Happy now?" I say in a way to make her understand how impatient she has made me. My head hurts too much to keep up with her.
-"Max? What kind of cartoon name is that?" She scoffs.
-"You have three seconds to get out of my sight." That's it one more roast or idiotic comment and I'm making sure the court hears these jokes of yours. Shit, way to get on my nerve, I think.
-"Okay Officer Max let's chill. Sorry, I'm just a natural when it comes to humor. But fine, I'll go, can't wait for us to meet again." She adjusts her bag on her shoulder and blows me a kiss before walking away, I don't even bother saying goodbye.
