Chapter 3 - Old Habits

As the sun rose on the early morning sky , everyone but Edd was still sound asleep . Edd was half asleep making coffee to wake himself up so he could make breakfast for everyone with less risk of causing a fire . As he waited for the coffee to brew , he leaned on the counter with his arms crossed as he rested his eyes .

He heard a door open from the hall and opened his eyes as the footsteps approached the kitchen . Barely awake , Tord entered the doorway of the kitchen and sat at the table , rubbing his eyes . He hadn't notices Edd yet .

" Mornin' . " Edd spoke .

Tord jumped at the sound of his voice and looked up at him , " God you scared me - "

" Still not used to my voice yet ? "

" Well , yeah . But also I just woke up . "

" Uh - Huh . You aren't normally an early riser , what's up ? "

" Your memory scares me . I just , couldn't go back to sleep I guess . "

" Not used to the house anymore ? "

" Yeah . "

" That's what happens when you're gone for years at a time . "

Tord lightly chuckled , " Feeling snippy , are we ? "

" Sorry , just tired . " Edd sighed

" No worries , I deserve at least a little bit of cold shoulder I suppose . "

" A little ? "

" Okay maybe a lot . "

" Yeah no shit , and more than a cold shoulder . "

" Uh - Huh " He looked down at his hands .

Edd sighed again , " Sorry . "

" Don't apologize . You're too nice . "

" I get that a lot . . "

" At least you aren't an asshole like Tom "

" Hey ! If you actually bothered to be nice to him you would've seen he's a great friend "

" Well he was always the one who started the arguments ! "

" I don't wanna hear it ! "

" You can't say I'm lying though . "

" Tord it's way too early for this . I don't care if he would start it , you shouldn't have fed into it ! "

" You know we both have anger management issues . "

" That's not an exuse . "

" Hmph . " Tord crossed his arms .

Edd scoffed , trying to hold in a small laugh , " Even after all this time we still fight like an old married couple "

" Ah - Why'd you have to phrase it like that ?? "

" Well I would've said like siblings but I don't really see you as a brother so . . . "

" . . Uh - huh "

" Anyway , Do you want some coffee ? "

" Yeah sure . " He leaned his head on his hand . " Hey what time is it anyway ? I didn't check . "

" Ahh , about 6 am "

" Oh Jesus - I really did wake up early "

" Mhm " Edd pulled some coffee cups down from the cabinet and poured some of the freshly brewed coffee into them . He handed one of the cups to Tord before he took his own to take a sip of it .
