Asha's POV

Confusion hung in the air like a thick fog, each of us wrestling with a tangle of emotions. I didn't know if I should be angry, happy, sad, or what.

It was silent for a few moment, but it was Deonte who broke it, his voice cutting through the uncertainty of this entire situation with a stern tone.

"Cool, y'all are siblings, that's great to know, Mike I fucks witcha, but what do you mean her parents is the reason Darryl?"

His words were blunt, devoid of any sugar coating. Just the way I liked it. I'm glad he said something because I couldn't muster a single sentence.

Darryl drew in a deep breath, a heavy sigh escaping him as Mike rubbed the bridge of his nose in clear frustration.

"Straight up, Mike," Darryl said, his voice steady but heavy. "Evelyn has been pocketing cash from Kyrah's parents to stay away from Asha. I had to call Kyrah's parents because something just didn't sit right with me, nor did things add up."

He continued, unraveling the web of lies and deception that surrounded my adopted parents' decision to pay Evelyn off. Not lies persay, but damn ommission of truth is all the fucking same.

When I first reached out to Evelyn, eager and hopeful to finally connect, I informed both Kyrah and my adoptive parents of this long-awaited reunion. She was excited, I was too, it all seemed just right.

Unbeknownst to me, Kyrah's parents, contacted Evelyn and offered her money to keep her distance.

They claimed they were trying to protect me, worried I was already drowning in the my emotions of my breakup with Travis, and they didn't want Evelyn's chaotic lifestyle adding to my personal issues.

I could understand their intentions, but still—I was the one supposed to make that choice. Even if their hearts were in the right place, it wasn't their call to make.

Yet, Evelyn saw this as her golden ticket. Each time I tried to arrange a meeting with her, she reached out to Kyrah's parents, collecting more cash to maintain her distance.

"All that woman cares about is money... Wow," Mike mumbled, his jaw tightening as he looked visibly more pissed by the second.

He looked angrier than both Levi and Deonte combined, who were practically bubbling over with rage themselves.

We all were pissed and rightfully so.

"What is our mom really like, Mike? Like Why would she accept the bribe?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper. I didn't want to raise my voice because he didn't do anything wrong.

When he turned to me, his eye grew dark with guilt as though the weight of our tangled history rested squarely on his shoulders.

"She's a lot of things, Asha," he replied, his tone heavy with guilt. "Your adopted parents did the right thing by keeping you away from her and she wronged both of us by keeping you from me all this time, knowing I was searching for you."
