Y/n watched the chaos of the party unfold around her, the loud music and dim lights creating an atmosphere of excitement. She sipped her drink, laughing with friends in the crowded living room, her eyes occasionally wandering outside to the quiet backyard. There, under the soft glow of string lights, stood Billie, chatting animatedly with a group of strangers.
A wave of jealousy flickered through Y/n as she noticed Billie's smile and the way she leaned in closer to a beautiful girl. Shaking her head, Y/n excused herself from her friends and made her way outside, the cool night air providing a sharp contrast to the heated atmosphere inside.
As Y/n approached, she caught Billie's eye just as the girl brushed a strand of hair behind Billie's ear. Suppressing a sigh, Y/n rolled her eyes and turned on her heel, retreating back into the house and straight to the relative peace of the kitchen.
Minutes later, Billie appeared in the doorway, her expression concerned as she spotted Y/n leaning against the countertop, arms crossed tightly. Ignoring the curious glances from other partygoers, Billie stepped closer, reaching out to gently touch Y/n's shoulder.
"What's wrong?" Billie asked softly, her voice barely audible over the din of the party.
Y/n shrugged off her touch, turning away with a bitter laugh. "Let's just go home" she whispered, her voice tinged with hurt.
Confusion clouded Billie's features, but she followed silently as Y/n led the way out to her car. The drive home was tense, the silence suffocating. Y/n couldn't shake the image of Billie flirting from her mind, and Billie felt the weight of Y/n's silent disapproval pressing down on her.
As they pulled into their driveway, Y/n slammed the car door shut and stormed inside, leaving Billie to scramble after her, desperate to understand the abrupt change in mood.
"Y/n!" Billie called after her, but Y/n didn't slow down until she reached their front door. She turned around, her eyes blazing with hurt and frustration.
"Why were you flirting with her?" Y/n's voice cracked, her hands trembling at her sides.
Billie blinked, taken back by the accusation. "I wasn't flirting, Y/n," she protested, her voice rising defensively. "I was just talking."
Y/n scoffed, her arms folding across her chest. "Talking? It looked like more than talking to me."
Billie shook her head, frustration building in her chest. "You're overreacting," she said firmly. "It was harmless."
"Harmless?" Y/n's voice rose incredulously. "You were practically leaning into her!"
Billie's tone colored with irritation, frustration evident in her voice. "And what? You think I'm interested in her?"
Y/n's jaw tightened, hurt flashing in her eyes. "I don't know what to think" she whispered, her voice breaking.
"You're blowing this way out of proportion," she snapped, her patience wearing thin. "I don't get why you're so jealous."
"Maybe because my girlfriend was practically all over another woman right in front of me!" Y/n's voice rose sharply.
Billie threw her hands up, her anger rising. "You don't trust me at all, do you?" she shot back, hurt evident in her voice. "I can't believe you're accusing me like this."
Y/n took a step forward, her fists clenched at her sides. "Well, what am I supposed to think when I see you acting like that?" she yelled, tears stinging her eyes.
Billie's jaw tightened, her own eyes brimming with frustration. "I love you, Y/n," she said fiercely. "But this is bullshit. I wasn't flirting."
Y/n looked away, her shoulders slumping. "I love you too," she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper. "But right now, I just need some space."
Billie nodded reluctantly, swallowing hard. "Okay," she murmured, her heart sinking.
Y/n disappeared into their bedroom, the sound of drawers opening and closing echoing through the house. Billie hovered uncertainly in the living room, debating whether to give Y/n space or to try and talk things out. Eventually, she settled on the couch, resigned to sleeping there for the night.
An hour passed, the house enveloped in stillness broken only by the occasional creak of floorboards. Unable to ignore the tension gnawing at her, Y/n walked quietly into the living room, finding Billie curled up on the couch, eyes closed.
"Why aren't you in bed?" Y/n's voice was soft, tinged with vulerability.
Billie started, eyes flickering open to meet Y/n's gaze. "I thought... you wanted space" she spoke softly, her voice tight with regret.
Y/n sighed, sitting down beside her. "I couldn't sleep," she admitted quietly. "I was upset, not because of what happened out there, but because I felt like you didn't notice how much it bothered me."
Billie's expression softened, regret etched on her face. "I'm sorry," she whispered, reaching out tentatively to touch Y/n's hand. "I didn't realize... I messed up."
Y/n met her gaze, seeing the sincerity in Billie's eyes. "I overreacted too" she admitted, her voice catching slightly. "I should have talked to you instead of shutting you out."
Billie nodded, swallowing hard. "I just didn't think it was that big of a deal," she said softly. "I didn't mean to hurt you."
"Well, it hurt" Y/n replied, her voice trembling. "I felt like you were ignoring me."
They sat there in tense silence, emotions swirling between them. Y/n took a deep breath, trying to steady herself. "I love you, Billie" she said quietly. "And I need you to understand why this upset me."
Billie nodded again, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. "I do understand now," she murmured. "I should have been more attentive."
Y/n reached out, touching Billie's cheek gently. "I just want us to communicate better" she said, her voice sincere. "Can we do that?"
Billie nodded, relief flooding her features. "Yes, we can," she whispered, leaning into Y/n's touch.
They stayed like that for a moment, the weight of their argument slowly lifting. Y/n leaned in, pressing a gentle kiss to Billie's lips. "Let's go to bed," she murmured against Billie's mouth. "Together."
Billie smiled softly, her heart swelling with love. "I'd like that," she replied, intertwining her fingers with Y/n's as they made their way back to their bedroom.
