The bathroom was quiet except for the sound of water lapping gently against porcelain and Billie humming something under her breath-something low and unfinished, probably a melody she hadn't written down yet.
Y/N leaned back into the warmth of the bath, her legs stretched out between Billie's, toes grazing the curve of her wife's thigh underwater.
The light was dim. Candles flickered on the marble counter, casting shadows that moved like waves on Billie's skin. The soft scent of Billie's perfume lingered in the steam-sweet and warm, like amber and vanilla and something else that Y/N could never quite name but always recognized.
It had been a long day. One of those public-facing, smile till your cheeks ache, wear heels and pretend you're not tired kind of days. Billie had spent hours getting pulled in a dozen directions-photos, interviews, shaking hands, fake laughing but the moment they stepped into the hotel suite and the door clicked shut behind them, everything shifted.
She was hers again.
Now, Billie sat behind her in the bath, one arm draped lazily along the rim, the other tracing soft, slow circles on Y/N's wet shoulder. Her fingertips were barely there, just brushing, but every time they made contact, Y/N's skin tingled. Billie was good at that-teasing without trying.
"You're quiet," Billie murmured, her voice husky and low, like it always got after a long night.
"I'm tired," Y/N answered softly.
There was a pause.
"You're not too tired for me, are you?" Billie's mouth was close to her ear now, her breath a little warm and a little cruel.
Y/N felt her cheeks heat under the water, even as her stomach fluttered. Billie could say the simplest thing and make it sound like a loaded promise.
"No," she whispered, almost embarrassed by how fast her voice gave her away.
Billie smirked behind her, just out of view, and leaned forward to press a kiss behind Y/N's ear. "Didn't think so."
They stayed in silence for a little while longer. Billie let her hands roam absentmindedly-over collarbones, along ribs, tracing the dip of Y/N's waist under the water. Her touch was never in a rush, never impatient. Billie liked to take her time, especially when they were alone like this. No schedules. No pressure. Just her girlfriend in her lap, soft and warm and quiet.
Y/N tilted her head back until it rested against Billie's shoulder, eyes fluttering closed.
"You're glowing," Billie said, brushing her knuckles down Y/N's jaw. "It's kind of pissing me off, actually."
Y/N laughed sleepily. "Why?"
"'Cause I worked hard to look hot tonight. And you-you barely did anything and you're just... radiant."
That made Y/N blush harder, which only made Billie grin wider.
"I like when you get shy," she added, lips brushing the corner of Y/N's mouth. "Means I still have that effect on you."
"You always have that effect on me."
Billie didn't respond. She just tilted Y/N's chin toward her and kissed her-slow and deep and certain. Not the kind of kiss that asked for anything. Just one that said you're mine.
And Y/N melted into it, like she always did.
By the time they stepped out of the bath, Billie was back in her element-wrapped in a loose silk robe, towel drying her damp hair, watching Y/N from across the room with the kind of gaze that felt heavy on the skin. Y/N pulled the hotel robe around herself and tied it at the waist, trying not to feel too exposed under Billie's eyes.
