He left at 8 when Stan was still asleep on the bed. His eyes were drooping and when he got downstairs, Sharon was in the kitchen. She saw Kyle and she smiled knowingly. She suggested he stay over for breakfast but he kindly declined as he slipped his green hat over his curls.
The drive home felt worse than it should have. He felt hollow as the small gray car drove past the farm back into town. Something about last night felt worse than usual.
Sure, Kyle normally felt shitty after the love of his life ranted about the girl he was somehow still madly in love with, but this time, he felt something chip off of him. Like a piece of him had gone missing.
'Fuck I can't believe myself.'
Once he got back home, he snuck back into his room before flopping back on his bed. He inhaled the familiar scent of his mattress and sighed. 'He'll never love me like that.' he felt tears prick his eyes again and rubbed them profusely. He couldn't be crying again. Not after last night.
Kyle stayed in his bed for a bit longer savoring the comfort of his own room.
Soon later, he heard a text, and checked his phone. Kenny had messaged the group chat and Kyle smiled. Tolkien had gotten Kenny a phone for his birthday, and since then, Kyle couldn't help but smile every time Kenny texted them.
Ken: Guys, party at Clyde's place tonight. Come at 7 plss.
Kyle hated going to parties really. They were loud and extremely messy. He normally only went when Stan needed a drive home, but today he needed something to make him forget himself.
I'll be there.
He typed out the message and sent it. Not long after, another ping was heard saying Stan would be there too. His heart lurched a bit, just seeing his message.
