She did it.

She had just won the Euro's

I looked down at her on the pitch with the brightest smile on my face and I couldn't hide it, and I also didnt want to. I wanted her to know that I was so proud of her. I had waited for this moment for her forever.

"She did so good!" Harriet tells me as she holds my cheeks, I beam back at my girlfriend as I feel pride towards the first woman I loved.

The woman I could still be in love with.

"She did" I cheer, I knew we would be celebrating tonight. I also knew that drinking and Leah was probably not a good idea, but I couldn't not celebrate with her.

Leah wanted to see all of her friends after the game, this meant we were stood in the family room and I was so scared. I was leaned against the desk as the girls spend time talking about how proud they were. I kinda just stood there looking back at all of them as we waited for Leah to show her face.

I was terrified, I had so much to say to her that I had always wanted to watch her win and that had just happened. We had always talking about this moment, when we were kids I guess we assumed her first major win we would be celebrating as a couple.

Instead we are strangers now.

I didnt know her. I didnt know who she had been for the past six years. Right now all I wanted to do was hug her, I wanted to hold her in my arms and pull her close and be held against her body.

The room erupts in cheers as Leah walks into the room. I stay back as they all jump around cheering and congratulating her. I stayed there looking at her, I watched as her eyes connect with mine.

I felt something in my stomach, it was butterflies.

Fuck.

My ex girlfriend shouldn't be giving me butterflies but she was.

Leah doesn't break her eye contact with me, she walks over powerfully. She didnt stop to speak to anyone she just walked over to me, I didn't know how to be around her. I wanted to jump up and hug her so tightly but Harriet was here.

Harriet was watching.

"Congratulations" I smile as I look at her, I could feel her eyes burning into mine.

She wanted to speak, I knew she wanted to touch me. Her hands stayed by her side but they wanted to lift and wrap around me. I wanted her to pull me close but we couldn't.

"Thank you Nell" she says, her eyes look inside of me. I could feel her looking at me, there was something there and it was undeniable.

She leans in and hugs me, right away was met with her smell. The same smell she always had, she smelt incredible even after a game of football. She still smell like Leah, she smelt amazing.

Leah was dripping wet from champagne, I didnt care. Her body pressed against mine the way it used to be, she fit against me like a glove.

The hug was lasting too long so I pull away from her. I pull away and smile back at her, no one in the room had even paid attention to me. I looked deeply into her eyes, I could see her looking at me like she used to before we would kiss.

It was too much now.

"Dont" I tell her and Leah takes a step back.

"You are coming out tonight right?" she asks me, and I look over to Harriet who was chatting with some of the other girls.

I knew Harriet would want to go, I knew she would be so up for it. I also know when Harriet was drunk she would spend time with her friends, that was fine. I didnt care about her hanging out with her friends. The second she had a drink inside of her it was like her friends were all that mattered, it never bothered me because my friends were always around.
