"Get 'ere you little birdie—" Bunny muttered, jumping up to try and catch the crow that had been flying around North's workshop.
"I got it!" Tooth said excitingly, diving at the bird. She barely missed grabbing it, and the bird nearly dropped the letter. Baby Tooth tried to come after it.
"Who the bloody hell is sending up crows here? This is the fourth time this week!" Bunny snapped, jumping once again to try and catch the bird. It cawed at him, swooping. Bunny's eyes widened. "Ah fuck!"
Bunny ducked, just as North was entering the room. The crow hit him in the face, dropping the letter it had in its talons. Baby Tooth halted, trying not to run into him as well.
Sandy chuckled silently as he floated in from the window. The bird flapped its wings, getting off of North's face.
"What in world is going on here?" North asked in confusion, wiping his face off. He noticed the letter and picked it up off the floor. The crow squawked.
"We were trying to see what the bird was delivering!" Tooth hummed, flying over. Baby Tooth flew back to her, chirping.
"Yeah. What's so bloody important that whoever is sending attack crows here." Bunny huffed. "What's the letter say?"
"It's addressed to Jack." North said, looking at the front of the envelope. The back was sealed with a crest. A maple leaf set in a vermilion wax.
"Jack? You're kidding." Bunny frowned. "Really?
North showed him the letter. "To: Jack. I mean, I don't know another Jack other than ours." He shrugged. Bunny rolled his eyes.
"Oh great, they're sending them here now."
Everyone looked up to see Jack in the rafters. Baby Tooth smiled and flew to him.
"Sending what here, sweet tooth?" Tooth asked, tilting her head.
"Dumb invitations." Jack said dismissively. He dropped down next to North. "Nothing important."
"So it's so not important that the crow refused to give it up to us?" Bunny huffed. "The bugger attacked us over it!"
"Well, it's rude to read mail not addressed to you." Jack pointed out. The rest suddenly looked a bit sheepish.
"Alright, so it's an invitation to what? From who?" Bunny asked, crossing his arms.
"Seasonal ball. I believe Fall is hosting this year." Jack shrugged.
"Seasonal ball? Like a dance?" Tooth asked, eyes lighting up. Baby Tooth chirped excitedly. Jack nodded.
"What do you mean Fall is hosting?" North asked curiously.
"Well, it's held every year, and it's hosted in order of seasons. Spring, Summer, Weather, Fall, Winter." Jack explained. "And before you ask, yeah, we have a faction for Weather. They have power over the more general stuff."
"Are you going?" Tooth asked.
"Nah." Jack shrugged. "Not my type of... anything. I haven't been to one in a while."
"Really? Guardian of fun and a party isn't your type of thing?" Bunny asked with an amused look. North opened the letter and begun to read.
"It's formal." Jack rolled his eyes. "Basically one huge show off. Everyone trying to outdo each other on how well their season can throw a party."
"So you host winter I assume?" North hummed, still looking at the letter.
"No, I don't like to. It's just a boring dance." Jack muttered.
"But it says right here, 'inviting Jackson Frost, King of Winter, to the Seasonal Ball hosted by the Fall Court.'" North recited.
"King of winter? Yeah right, that's a prank letter isn't it?" Bunny chuckled.
"No? I'm literally the only winter spirit." Jack huffed. "I am king of winter in the seasonal court. Did you guys not realize that?"
The looked at him in awe and confusion. "You're kidding us mate." Bunny laughed, before realizing that Jack looked serious for once. "Bloody hell. How do you not attend if you're the king of winter? Wouldn't that be your job to plan it on the years it falls upon the winter court?"
"I avoid it." Jack rolled his eyes. "I haven't been to one of those dances, or a seasonal conference, in like. Half a century."
"Jack! That's irresponsible!" Tooth lectured. "If that's your job as king of winter—"
"They're doing just fine without me, trust me." Jack interrupted.
"Well, will you be going?" North asked with a grin. Tooth looked at him, excitedly awaiting his answer.
"Why does that matter?" Jack asked, giving them a look.
"Well— do you think they would mind if we came?" Tooth asked with a smile.
"Why do you want to go? I said it's boring."
"Well then, isn't it your job to make it fun?" Bunny smirked.
Jack groaned and Sandy chuckled, floating next to him.
"C'mon mate, you can't be skipping out on your responsibilities." Bunny said, his ears pining back.
Jack groaned slightly but nodded reluctantly. "Fine. We can go. But just because you all want to. Don't blame me if Mother Nature gets mad."
Tooth squealed. "Oh! This will be great! I never knew the seasonals hosted a ball." She hummed.
"That's because normally only Seasonals are invited." Jack chuckled. Sandy jumped and made a symbol of an invite and a check mark over his head.
"You were invited? How?" Bunny asked curiously. Sandy smiled and shrugged, not explaining it further.
North laughed. "Well, when is party Jack? Soon?"
"It's on the Fall Equinox." Jack said quickly. "So yes. Next month. Three weeks."
North nodded. "We can't wait to attend. You can introduce us to friends, no?" He asked as Phil came up, saying something. "One moment— elves! Stop playing with the electricity!" He shouted, walking away with Phil.
Jack chuckled nervously as each of the other guardians save for Bunny returned to a task.
Bunny frowned. "You alright?" He asked.
Jack nodded. "Yeah! Yeah. Just gonna be odd bringing you lot."
"Afraid we'll embarrass ya?" Bunny chuckled.
"Maybe." Jack hummed softly, patting Baby Tooth's head as she sat on his shoulder. "Maybe..."
