Chapter 8
Begin To Bleed
I wake back up in my quiet room. Hearing the wind howl outside as I sit up on my bed. Standing up, I walk out of my bedroom and lean against the cold wall. Seeing it was foggy and dark outside. I hear my stomach growl and decide to head downstairs. Walking down the dark staircase, I arrive at the lobby. Somebody has cleaned up Joey and Tyler's blood from the floor. Covering it up with a couch. Even though there is no trace of what happened, I'm still scared by the memory of the two dead bodies. It scares me to think about what happened to them. Looking away from the dirty couch, I see William, Allen, and Jason talking to one another. Jason waves at me as I walk over and sit next to him
"What are you guys talking about?" I ask
Jason looks over at me, passing over a can and spoon
"I'm thinking I should go on a supply run. We're low on ammo"
William scuffs
"You shouldn't be going out there by yourself. It's not safe"
"I'll go with him. Besides, I think it would be nice to get out of here for a few hours" Allen says
Jason takes another sip of his cold meal
"That's the spirit! It's bad to be cooped up in one area for hours on end"
I grab the cold tin can and stab the spoon through, cutting the lit open
William bobs his head. "It's not bad to stay inside somewhere for a few days, especially when morning someone's death"
Jason sighs
"Your right, but you have to keep on moving. In a world like this, you can't always sit around and mope"
I take a sip of my food, it's cold, wet beans that taste dull. Making me feel like I want to throw up"
Allen places his can down. "I mean, both of you are right, but at the same time wrong. It's fine to morn the loss of a group member, but like Jason said 'you have to keep on movin' That is the best thing to do"
Jason stands up, walking over to the broken entrance
"Alright, I think the two of us will be safe out there. Do you have your gun, Allen?"
Allen stands up, heading over to Jason
"It's always on me"
Jason nods as the two walk out of the complex, leaving me and William alone in silence. I look over at William, seeing a tired and drained-out look on his face. He has recently shaven his beard, but I can see it starting to grow back
"Did you get any sleep last night?"
"I did, I've just been thinking about what happened yesterday. I feel bad for Brian. We should have kicked out Tyler"
"Where is Brian at? I haven't seen him since I woke up"
William pauses
"He's been in his room ever since yesterday. He did come out at one point to see Joey's grave, but besides that, he just closed himself off from us." William bobs his head, "I- I think we should go talk to him. Give him some company."
"I think he would like that. How's Weston?"
William moves the empty can across the table in a circular motion
"I don't know. He hasn't spoken a word to me last night"
Why do you think that is?"
"I think he might be struggling with everything that happened yesterday"
