Challe Fen Challe (シャル・フェン・シャル, Sharu Fen Sharu) is a main character in  Moonflowers and Obsidian Shards series.

Appearance

Challe Fen Challe is a tall fair-skinned warrior fairy with black hair and black eyes[1]. His eyes are catlike in appearance, as his pupils are vertical slits. It’s commonly stated that he is uncommonly beautiful for a warrior fairy. He has a beautiful wing with complex twinkling patterns that fascinates Ann. His other wing is kept in a small leather pouch and appears to have the same properties as the fabric in how it folds into the bag. He wears a long gray coat and can be seen carrying a sword in fights. He lost his right wing while being captured by Fairy Hunters.

Profile

Challe Fen Challe is a warrior fairy born from obsidian with high fighting abilities and serves as Ann's bodyguard. However, he doesn't look like a warrior, so he's often mistaken for a companion/ pet fairy due to his delicate features. Even Anne gets caught up in it until the Fairy Trader reveals to her that he killed three hunters before being captured and enslaved. His wings are enormous; the torn one is rolled up on itself and placed in a small leather purse that its owner always carries with them.

Having been enslaved by humans, he looks down on them and doesn't hesitate to insult or even threaten them when he can, which has led to him being considered "defective". He has been enslaved for 70 years and has traveled the Bloody Highway numerous times, so he knows the place and its dangers well.

When he meets Anne, he calls her a scarecrow and constantly provokes her, encouraging her to buy him, which she does.

Although he is not openly hostile to her, since he reveals his real name to her, for example, he does not intend to make it easy for her and does not trust her. Thus, he clarifies that contrary to what she would like, he does not intend to consider her a friend. Challe wants Ann to feel uncomfortable about being his master. He also encourages her to give him orders to make him react, arguing that he will not lift a finger otherwise.

Despite everything, he doesn't seem to intend to abandon her to her fate and even shows empathy towards her from time to time.

Past

Challe Fen Challe was born from the condensed energy of obsidian, thanks to the gaze of Elizabeth, a little girl who was five years old at the time. The latter, whom he nicknamed Liz, considered him his big brother, and they remained very close for fifteen years. Unfortunately, the young woman was murdered by other humans, which is another reason why he hates them. He reveals this information to Anne one night, when she is depressed, without going into details.

Abilities

Weapon Creation: because Challe Fen Challe was born from a piece of obsidian, he has the ability to create sharp swords out of thin air.
