2105 HOURS, AUGUST 7, 2557 (MILITARY CALLENDER) / OUM SYSTEM, SANUS WASTELANDS, PLANET REMNANT

The Wastelands were once considered the most dangerous place on Remnant due to the amount of Grimm activity within the region before the UNSC had exterminated them in 2545 after the UN—like the UN on Earth—was formed. The Wastelands were once known as the Vacuan Wastelands due to its vast deserts before Vacuo was reduced back into a city-state like all the other four Kingdoms after the UN was formed. Now, the Sanus Wastelands stands as a gap between the city of Coquina to the west, and the city of New Manassas to the east.

John looked down the Oracle scope on his SRS-99 S5 sniper rifle, watching the cave entrance leading to the nest of Grimm. A pack of six Beowolves poured out of the entrance, the pack's Alpha sniffed the air before barking at its fellow pack mates to follow. "Beowolf six pack just left the cave. Headed towards Green team's position."

"Blue-three to Green Actual, be advised," Private First Class Finn Andrews said through the COMM pack on his back. "Beowolf six pack is headed towards your position."

"Copy that, Blue-three," Kat-B320 replied, "keep us notified if there are more on their way."

"Acknowledge." Andrews said before cutting the COMM.

The plan was simple: Blue team would provide overwatch on the cliffside five hundred meters away while Green team distracted the majority of Grimm long enough for Red team to sneak in and plant C-12 charges at the cave entrance before clearing the blast zone and detonating it, causing a cave in and rendering anything within dead or dying.

"Okay," Corporal Sasha Muraski muttered, "I get that this is a Grimm extermination op, but why the hell is he—" she pointed a thumb at John "—here? Bit of a lousy job for a Spartan if you ask me. Hell, one of them would've been overkill enough, but Noble Team too? Now that's overkill."

"Sasha, we—"

"Cut the chatter, both of you." Master Sergeant Keith Copper said, interrupting Andrews, "If you hadn't noticed, we've got a job to do. And if this horde is dangerous enough for Spartans to be involved, then it's important."

"Yes, sir." Corporal Muraski and Private Andrews replied in unison.

John turned the dial on his Oracle scope, slowly zooming into the cave entrance and noticed two Ursa majors guarding the cave entrance. "Blue-three, notify Red team that there are two Ursa majors guarding the cave entrance." He said, not taking his eyes off his Oracle scope.

Private Andrews changed frequencies and tuned into Red teams COMM. "Red Actual, this is Blue-three, be advised: two Ursa major-classes are guarding the cave entrance and there are likely more inside."

"Understood, Blue-three," Carter-A259 replied.

Through the Oracle scope, John could see the Ursa's heads turning to the right before walking on all fours towards one of the nearby trenches that still remained from the Great War—Remnants version of WWI. Before any of them could react, their heads cocked to the side and the two fell into the trench, their bodies beginning to decompose into ash and being scattered by the wind.

John zoomed out and saw SPARTANs -A259, -A293, -141, and -A344 moving towards the cave entrance in a tight formation—Noble team had been divided alongside the ODST so Green team can have its share of Spartans and so Kat can be its CO considering that she is both Noble teams' tech expert and second in command—all holding M7S Submachine guns. He turned his scope towards the cave entrance, it was empty. Not a single Grimm in sight.

"Blue Actual, this is Green Actual," Kat's voice spoke through COMM. "I need sniper support. Two more packs just ambushed us. Don't know how much longer we can hold out."
