Holly

Why do I get the feeling that I'm going to regret this conversation? Haven walked in and stood on the other side of my desk, holding her hands behind her back. She's moving around like a little girl trying to hide a secret or who's really shy around a boy she likes. Maybe I should just bite the bullet and ask what she wants.

"Hi Haven." I say, giving her a raised brow.

"Hi Holly. How's your day?" She asks in a sweet voice that she only uses when she wants something.

"It's been good. So why don't you tell me what you're really here for?" I say.

The look on her face is priceless. Lord, she can't possibly still think this works. I've seen her doing this my entire life, and I know she uses this sparingly. It's for things she knows the person isn't going to want to do. I love Haven and whatever she says I will most likely do.

"I know you have your first appointment with the OBGYN tomorrow. But I kinda wanted to go with Shepard on his run. We're going to be checking out new suppliers for the bar." She looks unsure and I feel bad for her.

"I told you, Haven, that I didn't want to get in the way of your life. Why don't we try to get me a car tonight? I think I should be able to get something and then I'll be fine to drive myself. If not, I'll just Uber." I say with a shrug.

This situation doesn't seem like all that big of a problem. As much as I appreciate the love and support she's given me, I want to be able to take care of myself. This is the perfect time for me to start.

"That could work. But do you know anything about cars?" She asks, cocking her head to the side.

"Well, no, but it can't be that hard." I say with a laugh.

"Are you wanting to get a new or used car? Do you know what to look for as far as safety? Do you even know what type of car you want?" Haven asks in successive questions.

"Well, no, but I mean I can always figure those things out as we shop." I tell her.

"I think we should take someone who knows about cars with us. What if we took Shepard and Gage?" She says, pulling her phone from her back pocket.

Before I can answer, she's already texting someone and I can guarantee I know who she's texting. I don't think that she's forgotten what happened, but I think she's been understanding why it happened and is trying to repair what started as broken.

"I see what you're doing." I say in a low voice.

"What do you mean you see what I'm doing?" She says, raising her brow. Haven always likes a challenge.

"You're trying to fix this thing with me and Gage." I say, raising a brow of my own.

We stay there one standing while the other sits. Locked in the eternal battle of sisters. A starring contest to prove who's right. I'm not angry that she's doing this. I know that he's not as bad as I thought, but I just really want to ruffle Havens' feathers.

"Fine!" She yells, throwing her hands in the air. "I want two of my favorite people in the world to be alright with each other!"

I want to giggle at how silly she's being, but part of me wants to toy with her some more. Haven always gets stuff past me and I want to see what it's like for a change.

"And why would I do that? You heard what he said, and he calls me little mama." I say, pretending to be upset.

"And he's apologized to you multiple times. I know what he did was wrong, but you have to admit that sometimes people snap at someone who doesn't deserve it. I'm not saying he was right to do it. But I am saying you will miss out on an awesome friendship if you keep holding it against him." She looks so sincere right now.
