Kaiya and the Lieutenant walked through the bustling streets of the colonial town, a striking blend of Earth Kingdom and Fire Nation influences. The buildings retained their earthy architecture, adorned with green roofs, yet interspersed with Fire Nation flags and symbols. The streets were a mix of native Earth Kingdom citizens and Fire Nation inhabitants, their green and red robes blending in a sea of contrasting colors. The atmosphere was positive, with people bowing respectfully as the Lieutenant and Kaiya passed by. However, Kaiya could hear murmurs and feel the weight of stares directed at her, aware that many recognized she was the new commander of the town.
Arriving at the main courtyard of the repurposed governance building, Kaiya and the Lieutenant were met by around twenty Fire Nation soldiers standing in formation. The Lieutenant led Kaiya onto the platform, his voice carrying authority as he began the proceedings.
"Attention! From this day forward, Captain Kaiya is in command of this town. It is imperative that you show her the utmost respect and loyalty to ensure a smooth transition from the previous commander."
The soldiers responded in unison, "Yes sir!"
The Lieutenant continued, "Captain Kaiya will now share a few words."
Kaiya stepped forward, her gaze sweeping over the soldiers. Despite their disciplined stance, she noticed a few raised eyebrows, a reaction to her youth. However, she also saw curiosity in their eyes, drawn to her sleek, dark red uniform with gold accents that outlined her figure. The high-collared top, fitted pants, and sturdy, polished boots exuded both elegance and authority.
Kaiya's speech was brief. "This town stands as a testament to the peace and order the Fire Nation aims to bring to the world. You have done great work here, and I trust you will continue to excel under my command. I acknowledge my youth and the fact that I have much to learn, but I am committed to leading us to further success."
She paused, then raised her voice with conviction, "Glory to Fire Lord Ozai!"
The soldiers echoed her chant, "Glory to Fire Lord Ozai!" The unified response reverberated through the courtyard, energizing them and solidifying her position as their new leader.
The Lieutenant's voice cut through the air with authoritative precision. "Men, you are dismissed. Women, stay behind and form a horizontal line."
Obediently, the male soldiers left the courtyard, leaving behind a small group of women who stood nearly shoulder to shoulder at the center of the courtyard, each at attention and awaiting further orders.
The Lieutenant then turned to Kaiya, his expression formal yet respectful. "Captain Kaiya, I must bid you farewell now." With that, he gave a crisp Fire Nation bow and departed, leaving Kaiya in the capable hands of the Sergeant.
The Sergeant led Kaiya down the platform and toward the group of female Fire Nation soldiers. As they approached, the Sergeant gestured toward the line of women. "Captain Kaiya, you may choose a soldier to serve you personally."
Kaiya's eyes swept over the small group, confusion clouding her features. She turned to the Sergeant, her voice reflecting her puzzlement. "There are only four to choose from. Why so few?"
The Sergeant's face remained impassive as he explained, "Most of the female soldiers in the Fire Nation are garrisoned on the Fire Islands. It is a common practice to station them there due to strategic considerations."
Kaiya nodded, absorbing the information. She then turned her attention back to the four soldiers standing before her.
Kaiya stepped forward, her gaze sweeping over the four female soldiers standing at attention. She studied them carefully from head to toe, noting the differences in their appearances and demeanors. Some were taller, some stood with more confidence, and others had a certain determination in their eyes. Despite her initial assessment, Kaiya decided to seek the Sergeant's opinion before making her decision.
"Sergeant, what do you think?" Kaiya asked, turning to him.
The Sergeant stepped forward, his experienced eyes scanning the line of soldiers. "I recommend the tallest one, Private Nara," he said, pointing to one of the four. "She is incredibly fit and highly skilled in combat. Her abilities stand out even amongst the men."
Kaiya soaked in this information, her gaze shifting to the tall soldier. The tall soldier stood with a composed yet powerful presence, her toned muscles hinting at her physical prowess. Kaiya nodded, feeling more confident in her selection.
"Private Nara, step forward," Kaiya commanded.
Private Nara took a step forward, her expression unwavering. "Yes, Captain Kaiya. It would be an honor to serve you!"
Just before making her decision, Kaiya's eyes caught two of the soldiers who looked strikingly similar. It was obvious that they were twins. Though they did not look as intimidating or as skilled as Private Nara, something unique resonated with Kaiya.
Kaiya walked in front of the twins, her curiosity piqued. "What are your names?" she asked, her tone inquisitive.
"Private Rina and Private Lina, Captain," they responded in unison, their voices steady.
Kaiya considered them for a moment. "You two may not be the strongest, the swiftest, or the most skilled," she began, her voice thoughtful. "But you have navigated life by supporting one another and always watching each other's backs, haven't you?"
The twins nodded in unison. "Yes, Captain Kaiya," they responded together, their voices steady.
Kaiya turned to the Sergeant. "Sergeant, while Private Nara is an exemplary soldier, I seek confidants who can seamlessly integrate into both personal and professional realms. These twins possess a unique bond, a natural quality that cannot be taught. Their fierce protectiveness of one another is commendable, and I believe they will be ideally suited to serve me personally."
The Sergeant nodded, respecting Kaiya's decision. Kaiya then addressed the twins. "You will both serve as my personal aides."
The twins bowed deeply. "We are honored, Captain Kaiya."
