Chapter 2: First day pt2

I got into the class and the class that was buzzing with chatter was now silent all eyes on me. Ms Adams closed the door and stood next to me in the front of the class "okay guys this is our new student..." "Malaika, Malaika Jones" "right Malaika, she'll be joining us for the rest of the school year, please be nice to her and show her around okay guys" Ms Adams said smiling back and forth between me and the rest of the class. "Malaika um would you like to introduce yourself" I nodded and took deep breath that was hopefully not noticable. "Hi, I'm Malaika Jones, nice to meet you all". Ms Adams smiled and started clapping which the rest of the class soon followed in doing. "Do you have anything you wanna tell us about, maybe where you're coming from" I was kind of surprised she asked normally I'd introduce myself and be directed to my seat but I was glad to talk about where I was coming from "oh um I moved here from Cape Town South Africa" "really, is that where you're from" "oh no" I chuckle lightly "I was actually born in Jamaica, but because of my parents job we move around alot" I say smiling. "Well that's very interesting" she said smiling at me "thank you Malaika for your introduction you can have a seat there" she pointed to BB a seat almost in the middle of the class. I walked over to my seat as Ms Adams told us about upcoming assessments, events and so on. A girl behind lightly patted me on my shoulder, I turned to her and she gave me a huge smile "Hi, I'm Natalie Kim" "Hi Natalie, nice to meet you" I say giving her a small handshake "same here, I dig your fit by the way" "Thank you". She smiled back at me in response.

Soon after the bell rang which meant 1st period, I had English but before I could leave Ms Adams stopped me and called me over, there was this tall boy next to her "Malaika, this is Julian. He's our class rep and he'll be giving you a tour of the school" "nice to meet you" he said holding his hand out "nice to meet you too" I said shaking his hand. "Alright you guys can go to class now". We both smiled and left the class. "So Jamaica huh?" He asked as he was taking me to my English class "yeah" I say chuckling lightly "Well that's cool". We continued to walk in silence until he broke it again "This is you" "Thank you" "No problem, if you need any help don't forget to ask" "Thanks I will". Then he walked away, I opened the door to the class and after scanning the class I saw Natalie there which actually put me at ease. She spotted me too and waved me over to her, I took the hint and I walked over to her but accidentally bumped into someone's table "oh I'm so sorry" I said picking up the stuff that fell out of their pencil case "Nah it's cool don't worry about" she replied in a low husky tone.

After picking up her things I placed on the table and that's when I got a good look at her. She had this black hair that was styled in a wolf hair cut that kind of covered her face. Her hair also looked kind of curly too. There was a girl sitting on her desk and she turned to me giving me a bright smile, she had this curly hair and a very bright personality I could tell she had alot of energy. "Hiii" "Hi" I said back in response "I'm Hailey, this is Avery" she said pointing to the girl I had the interaction with earlier "Nice to meet you both, I'm Malaika but call me Laika for short if you want" "cool, I really like your name by the way it suits you alot" "Thank you" I said smiling "So are you new here" "Yeah I transferred it's my first day today" "Well I hope you enjoy it here, even if it's a bum sometimes, it's kinda cool in its own way" she said chuckling. She was really friendly I really liked her "Thanks for the advice" I say playfully winking at her "Oh" she said holding her hand up to her chest "Don't wink at me you'll make me full in love with you" she said jokingly. I laughed and waved bye at them and continued on to Natalie. She introduced me to some of her friends who were really cool and nice. The lesson was fun we did literature which is my favorite if I'm being honest.
The day went by fast and Natalie got my number at the end of the day. My mom fetched me after and we went back home.

Dad cooked dinner tonight, it was a simple pasta with garlic rolls. "So how was first day?" My mom asked bringing in the water. Lani was the first one to answer so that means she probably either had a good day or had already made an enemy. "It was really nice, the teachers were nice, I made 2 friends but I think an enemy too" she said lightly banging her knife on the table. "What do you mean enemy" my dad asked clearly concerned. "So when I went to the PE teacher to ask about sports there was this group of boys sitting in the gym. So when I was talking to Ms Lancaster about the basketball team, these boys were eavesdropping which is plain rude but okay" she rolled her eyes "then as I was about to leave the gym this one boy with straight hair was all like "you play basketball" and I was like yeah "and him and his friends starting laughing and I wasn't gonna do anything until this one boy got on my nerve and was like 'i doubt you can play that good' and I was oh it's on and now I'm playing against him one on one at the park on Friday, he said his bringing his sister so I said I'm bringing mine to" I nearly choked on my the spaghetti "Wait why do I have to be there" "we need refs" she said shrugging her shoulders "isn't his sister enough" "nah" she said gesturing to dad for to give her a roll. I rolled my eyes "Fine what time is it" "wait you're actually gonna do it" she asked excitedly "Sure why not, I wanna see you kick but" she smiled excitedly and got all giddy "Thank you thank you thank youuuuu" she got up and gave me a hug.
After dinner I washed the dishes with my mom. "So how was your day" she asked handing me a plate "It was cool, I meant some really nice people, made a friend her name is Natalie" "Oh really that's nice, and your classes" "Going good, the teachers are really nice" I said packing away the last of the glasses. "That's good, well I'm gonna go to sleep, old people can't stay up for too long" I laughed a little, "Good night honey" she gave me a peck on the forehead and went upstairs.

I was laying in bed getting ready to read my book when I got a notification from my phone, it was Natalie.

N: Heyyyyyyy 🙋🏻‍♀️😆😆

M: Hiiiiii 😊😊

N: Hruuu

M: I'm good hruuu

N: Good, soooo I was wondering do you wanna hang out with me and my friends Friday after school??

M: This Friday??

N: YEAH!!!

M: 😓 I can't sorry

N: NOOOOOOOOO ༎ຶ⁠‿⁠༎ຶ

M: yeah, my sister has this thing going on and she asked me to be there

N: it's cool when big sister duty calls you have to answer I guess

M: Yeah (:, do you younger siblings

N: You can kind of say that, I have twin brother but I was born first so you can say I'm older 💪🏻

M: 😂

N: gotta go, see you tmrw 😆

M: byeeee

I was about to put my phone on dnd and did my bed time routine and went to bed once I was finished and that was the end of the first day of junior year
