Courtney's POV:

I didn't really dream about anything. Not that I would remember it when I awake of course. A sleep so deep it felt as if I had died.

But not all good things last forever, I woke up to a pretty girl trying to call my attention.

"Courtney," the voice said calmly. A voice so sweet and delicate, one that I could recognize anywhere.

I smiled softly at the thought, my mind not fully awake.

Kimberly shook me again softly, I fully woke up with a grunt.

I opened my eyes, I lifted my head slightly noticing how I was completely cuddled against Kimberly. I was still in her arms swaddled like a baby.

Her sweet eyes followed mine, watching me notice how our bodies were tangled together.

"You look so cute when your asleep," she murmured, her hand cupping my cheek. I let out a soft sigh feeling her thumb against my face, messaging me so gently, pulling me back to sleep.

"No Courtney, baby, you have to wake up," She said sweetly. That made my stomach turn, quickly hid my face in the crook of her neck, I didn't want her to see the effect her words had on me.

She chuckled, kissing the top of my head, "Your dad is calling us for breakfast." I quickly jerked my head up, yup that was probably one of the least sexiest things she could say. She smiled up at me from her lying position. She offered me a quick kiss on my shoulder before gently untangling herself from me.

"Here," I too finally got out of  bed, I looked for some slippers in the corner of my room. I gave her a pair and she thanked me with a quick kiss on the cheek, quickly ushering me downstairs.

"I've actually saw your father recently," my father said as the food was being passed around. His attention was directed at Kimberly.

"Is that so?" She said before taking a bite of her scrambled eggs.

"Yes indeed, I saw him just yesterday Kimmy, taking his morning walk before heading to the office. Had a conversation with him, now let me tell you, that man has great plans for the future of this town. You should be very proud of your old man." My father practically grinned at his statement. His hands folded into each other, clearly waiting for us, or mainly Kimberly to add to this conversation.

Kimberly didn't see much of her dad gone for weeks at a time, he was a politician, especially mayor for the majority of her life. Kimberly has always been interested in her father's line of work offering ideas as well as help, they didn't really see eye to eye. Kimberly tried to push for better equality for all people, her father had no interest in indulging in her fantasies. No matter how many times she tried to convince him, he'd always reply that she was too young to understand anything.

My father was always a big fan of her dad. Probably because he thought it would be cool to be friends with the mayor. The status it gave in. Kimberly's dad allowed it because my dad made a lot of money. And her dad thought it would probably be better that his own mixed-race daughter spent her time with another high-status white family.

Thus, the beginning of our great friendship.

"That's great so great to hear! I am very exited to see what my father is planing for this fall." Kimberly politely matched his enthusiasm, even though it didn't quite reach her eyes.

My father went on and on about the conversation and apparently what changes he wanted for our town, it lasted all of breakfast so you better believe I tuned out the first five minutes. My mom tried to keep up nodding every few minutes to whatever my dad was saying, but Trevor and I knew better to just stare into space. Kimberly was the only one making any real conversation with the man.
