Knock Knock
"Hello, Sanem," my best friend Leila greets me with a mischievous grin as she peeks her face through one of the book cases near my desk. Her smirk reveals her intentions – happy hour with alcohol, peanuts, and undoubtedly, tall handsome distractions. Anticipating her usual scheme, I muster a smile and ask, "What's up?"
Leila excitedly sits in the empty desk next to mines, it looks like Ahmet, my desk neighbor, must have ran out of here. "The Raven Pub is hosting a speed dating event tonight. Let's go and mingle with some single men." She shakes her shoulders playfully while I make a face of disgust. "Besides, we should celebrate your well-deserved promotion."
I sigh and adjust my large glasses, recalling my previous experience with speed dating. "The last time we tried speed dating, I found myself exhausted from discussing my hobbies repeatedly. It felt like they all had rehearsed the same set of questions. I'd rather focus on finishing this new script and spare myself the trouble. Its not fun dating too many guys for two minutes. They aren't even interesting." Obviously Leila disagrees from her face expression but speed dating is out of my comfort zone, I don't think I could go through that again.
"But Sanem, time is ticking. I'm tired of returning home to an empty apartment every night," she pouts. Unlike Leila, I like living alone because I can focus on my 1,000 piece puzzle of the Empire State Building. "Then why don't you talk to Emre? I'm sure he would appreciate it if you whispered some sweet nothings in his ear." I laugh at my corny joke while Leila gives me a pleading look. The woman has been in love with Emre for years but he is too blind to see what is in front of his face.
"You're no fun, my friend," she remarks. With a reluctant sigh, I agree, "Fine, to celebrate the promotion. No speed dating," I say pointing at her.
We gather our belongings and head towards the bar. The Raven Pub is our go-to spot in the neighborhood, this is where Leila and I unwind over a good glass of red wine. We share our struggles, meet new people, one time we even did a project for a college science class here. We've explore other bars but nothing beats this small bar with old school pop music. I smile remembering the day I got a small scar on right shin for accidentally hitting the corner of the bar when I was dancing and singing loudly to 'Only Girl In The World' by Rihanna.
Leila has been my best friend for over 15 years, since our middle school days. Our bond is unbreakable and to an outsider it is difficult to see how that is. Leila is a fashionista with a remarkable sense of style. She is outgoing, social, tall, and stunningly beautiful, with a pair of boobs. In contrast, I'm lean, short, booty, and well not much in the upper area. I'm not a super fashionista like my bestie, but I dress well. I just tend to do it in smaller heels and with my glasses on. I'm very shy and I spend my time at home writing and working on my scripts, strategizing ways to continue a series. My life is consumed by my job. I worked very hard to be able to write for a major production company like Divit Productions and because of that I make my job my main focus. It's only because of Leila I get out of my apartment, she makes me remember that I am 27 and I need to socialize with the world.
Divit productions is a movie and tv series entertainment company in Turkey. The company is led by Aziz Divit who oversees the business. Aziz has an ex-wife, Huma who doesn't do much but boss all the production assistant around. She barely comes to the office but when she does its chaos. The Divits have one son, Can, who doesn't seem to care for the business like his dad, but has made a name for himself as an actor. Can is a great actor, known for his versatility on screen and his impactful performances, he has even won several Golden Turkish, Emmys, and Yesilcam awards. He is also great on the eyes. He looked like he stepped out of every woman's most daring fantasy. Tall with long hair typically tied up in a bun, and a hard rock body. I know because I saw him shirtless in the movie The Roman Empire. I have heard rumors that he will visit the office but this holds little importance to me. Unlike, my coworkers who are excited to meet Turkeys sexiest man alive, I am indifferent to Can's visit. I am hyper focus on my own goals of writing and producing my own romantic comedy series to focus on Can Divit. Besides, I'm sure Can is like most actors, self-centered, delusional and rude player. No need for all this fuzz when he will probably leave the same day he walked in.
