Ashley

"Here's your coffees my dears." The old lady, Aunt Martha, as she insisted us call her, sat the drinks in the center of the table. "And your hot chocolate, sweetheart."

She set the steaming cup before and I smiled. "Thanks, Aunt Martha."

"No problem, holler if you need something."

"We will." Merikh, my older sister's soon-to-be-husband, said with a smile and Aunt Martha walked off. "How's school been going Ash?"

"It's been going." I said, taking a sip of the liquid chocolate.

"Meet anyone special yet?" Angel, Ava's best friend, asked with a knowing smile.

"My roommate is really nice."

"Have you heard from Ace lately?" Ava spoke up, finally entering the conversation.

My face fell a little and I studied the different shades of brown in the hot chocolate. "Haven't heard from him since they moved."

The table fell suffocatingly quiet at the mention of my childhood best friend moving.

After a while we picked up a conversation once again, thanks to Merikh, and stayed like that for a couple of hours.

My alarm went off and I quickly began to pack my things up.

"I'm sorry. I gotta head to my class." The group laughed as we walked out the door, towards my class.

"I sure don't miss those days." Ava said with a smile before kissing the crown of my head. "We've got to head home tomorrow. Don't forget how much I love you."

"I won't." I smiled, and rushed off after hugging the group.

"Why did we have to get a dorm room so far from our classes?" I groaned, causing Camellia to giggle as we walked across the campus, taking in the night sky.

"You tell me." The Australian answered with a huge smile overtaking her stunning features.

"I swear it's the longest walk ever."

"At least we get to see the stars and moon every night." Camellia said, ever the optimist. That was the difference between her and I. She always saw the good in things, I saw the real in everything.

"Sure." I nodded along, unlocking the dorm room. "All I want to do is collapse on my bed, curled up in a blanket."

"Don't we all, Ashley. Don't we all." She smiled, snuggling into her covers. Meanwhile I grabbed my blanket off the ground and collapsed onto the still made bed. We both flickered our lamps off and were bathed in darkness. "Sleep well, Ash."

"You too, Cam." Slowly I drifted off to sleep with a soft grin on my face.
