Collision

As I exited my room, nakasalubong ko pa si sammy. When she saw me, she immediately smiled. I didn't react; I just walked past her.

I wasn’t in the mood.

"Ate," she called and followed me. "Do you have any plans today?" she asked.

"Wala." Tipid na sagot ko.

"Do you want to go shopping, ate?" she suggested cheerfully. "Nabobored narin ako dito sa bahay"

"I don’t want to. Ikaw nalang," I declined.

"Come on, ate. Just come with me so we can bond together," she persisted.

"I’m tired," I simply responded.

"You’re such a killjoy, ate.  no wonder you don’t have friends at school because of that attitude," she said, frowning.

Her words made me stop. She quickly realized her mistake and apologized.

"Sorry, ate."

"Sam, if I don’t want to go with you, don’t push it. Dahil hindi lahat ng bagay ikaw ang masusunod," I said seriously, looking at her blankly.

"I'm sorry, ate." Hinging tawad niya habang nakayuko.

"What’s going on here?" asked Kuya Vin, who had appeared behind me. "Are you two fighting?" he asked again.

"It’s nothing, kuya," Sammy answered.

"Why are you apologizing to Canny if there’s nothing going on?"

"Ah, kuya, I was just asking ate Canny to go shopping with me so we could bond," she explained.

Kuya Vin now focused his attention on me. "Sammy wants to bond with you. Just agree."

"I’m tired, kuya. Sammy knows that."

Before I could pass them, Kuya Vin grabbed my arm.

"Don’t leave! I’m still talking to you," he said with a threatening tone.

He’s always the hot-tempered one among us siblings, which is why I dislike him.

"What do you want to discuss, kuya vin?" I asked blankly.

Agad hinawakan ni Sammy si kuya. "Kuya, naintindihan ko naman ang reason ni ate, so don’t start a fight."

Kuya Vin didn’t look at Sammy and instead glared at me.

"Kaya mag isa kalang dahil diyan sa ugali mo."   His words felt like a needle piercing my chest.

"Kuya, stop it!" Sammy shouted.

I didn’t show him how much his words hurt because I didn’t want to appear pitiful.

" And so kuya do you think na kailangan ko sila? " I ask with sarcasm. "No. I don't need them. Di ko kailangan ipagsiksikan ang sarili ko sa taong ayaw saakin." I said, napatigil naman sila.

"Magandang umaga, young lady." Bati ng nadadaanan kong katulong.

"Ate, please tell the driver to get the car ready. I’m leaving," utos ko sa kasambahay.

I went straight out of the house. I didn’t want to see their faces. I wanted to be alone.

"Give me the key."

"P-po pero—" I cut him off.

"I said give me the key." Galit na utos ko. Wala siyang nagawa.

I was of legal age to drive. I knew how to drive because Mamita had taught me.

I wanted to go far away. Far from them.

I drove quickly. I had to brake suddenly when someone crossed the road. The person I almost hit was thrown to the ground. I rushed out of the car.

"Kuya are you okay?"

The figure looked familiar.

He stood up and brushed himself off. "Do you think I’m okay?" he replied irritably before facing me.

Nagulat kami pareho.

"Sorry, Di ko sinasadya."

"Pasalamat ka at ako ang nabangga mo at di ang ibang tao."

Biglang tumaas ang kilay ko sa sinabi niya.

"Why would i thank you to you." Mataray kong Sabi. "At isa ba hindi kita nabangga, malapit lang." Dagdag ko pa.

Natawa naman siya. "Bilib din ako saiyo. Ikaw na nga ang muntik makabangga. Ikaw pa ang nagtataray." Saad niya. "Kung ibang tao pa ang nasa pwesto ko ngayon. Naku iwan ko nalang. "

"Alright. I’m sorry, and thank you for being the one I almost hit instead of someone else. Thanks," I said sarcastically.

"That’s quite sarcastic," he replied.

"You’re really demanding," I said irritably. My attention was drawn to his bleeding elbow.

I quickly grabbed his arm to check it.

"Oh my God. We need to get you to the hospital," I said, panicking.
