My lavender girl, wearing only my boxers and baggy lilac tee,
as you snuggled up next to me.
Looking at you, my heart's as warm as the summer sun,
that kissed those freckles onto your face.
I used to knot my hair, so when you ruffled your fingers through, they got stuck, hooked, bound.
Anything so I could stare and smile into those hazel eyes for a little longer.

You'll meet many temporary people at your age, my mother said.
But what I would give,
to hear your voice,
whispering sweet nothings into my ear.
To lay beside your body,
it's lavender scent staining my sheets.
Now I smell the plant you picked and pressed to remind me of you.
