"Hey! I was reading that!"
"Pearl, how many times do I have to remind you to not touch the locker?!"
Mom had snatched the letter from my hands and took it with her to her room.
I don't know why mom always gets so hostile when I get close to the dreaded locker. She had warned me since childhood not to even get near it.
But, who cares about the rules? They are meant to be broken!Well, my hands are also going to be broken... but we are not talking about it right now!
I didn't exactly remember what the letter was, but I know it was something about a war and some ship...
I somehow managed to read the name of the sender.
It was written by someone named 'Paul'.
But who in the world is Paul? And why in the lobster did he write a letter to my mom?"PEARL! HOW MUCH TIME ARE YOU GOING TO TAKE TO CLEAN THE ATTIC?"
Shit. I need to finish my task fast.
I took a cloth and wiped the window.
The view from the attic window was truly breathtaking. Everything was visible from up here.
The beautiful townscape, the pretty blues of clashing waves at the shore, and...
Oh! The only school in town.
Only the rich kids went there... and oh well! I wasn't privileged enough to attend it and got homeschooled by my mom instead.
But, I can't blame her!
She is a single mother, and had raised me since dad left her...
Or well, that's what she always used to tell me. I never knew who he was, and why did he decide to leave mom. Mom fumed with anger whenever I mentioned him."PEARL! ARE YOU GOING TO COME OR NOT?"
I quickly kept the cloth aside and rushed downstairs. I found mom sitting on the chair with some notebooks and pens.
"Whoa, mom! Going to get into writing? Picking up on a new hobby, I see."
"It's for you!" She said with a small smile.
"Huh! It's not even my birthd-"
I looked up to the tiny calendar hanging pathetically to a rusted nail on the wall.
"...OH, it is-"
My mom laughed.
"Oh, my sweet daughter! So forgetful! Just like your fath-"
She paused for a bit.
"nevermind.""But, mom! What am I going to do of these notebooks? I don't even go to school..."
I said awkwardly.
Of course, there was no way in hell that my mom is going put me in the school... right?"You guessed it, sweetie!"
"What?"
"You're going to join the school!"
"WHAT"
"First semester's gonna begin this summer! You better be excited!"
Excited?
Man, I was SQUELING.
You could see my eyes glow up at the thought of attending school, meeting new friends, and most importantly... live a new life!I went to bed that day dreaming about the life I would have at school. Studies, fun, and maybe... love?
Ughh, I shouldn't have read those romance novels at the local library! Gives you such an unrealistic view about romantic relationships!
Or maybe I am going to find the love of my life...
Whatever the case might be, I can't wait to join school!
