Chapter 3

Busting into the cabin and looking towards where the scream came from we noticed two men around our age, one sitting on a dresser and the other huddled close to him turning towards the door.

"Damn Alex you scared the shit out of us." Said the taller of the two walking towards us. He had a thin figure, clear olive skin, and tight compact curls that were neatly groomed.

"Priscilla is pissed at you two George." Alex said as a reply. "You two were supposed to be back with the wood a while ago."

"Looks like they misunderstood what Priscilla meant by get some wood." Zara said jokingly looking between the two men. They both began to blush very deeply.

The shorter of the two looked towards me and let out a friendly smile. "Hey you must be Naomi, I'm Jesiah." Jesiah was very well put together. He had a longer mullet, honey skin, and a very flamboyant style. "This is my boyfriend George." He said pointing towards George, who nodded in my direction.

"Pleasure to meet you both." I replied reaching out
to shake his hand. George looked over making a face I can only describe as jealousy. George then cleared his throat and made a motion towards a small wood pile on the ground.

"We should probably get back to the main cabin before Priscilla rips our heads off." He said.

On the walk to the cabin, I felt a pure sense of uneasiness. Walking through the dirt path I felt the feeling of being watched. I looked towards the large group of trees and saw a clump of branches move. The pit in my stomach only grew deeper. Rather than worry everyone else, I chose to keep this to myself, telling myself it was some type of animal.

By the time we reached the cabin, Priscilla is already in a better mood. She is seated discussing medical supplies she would need to get on her trip to town with someone who seems to be the new nurse.

"Finally, you're all back!" Priscilla said looking at the foyers entrance. "This is Priya, our nurse for the summer." Priya has beautiful mocha skin, black long wavy hair pulled back, and a kind demeanor. "Hey everyone, can't wait to work with you all, well not in that way I would never wish ill on a camper." she said flustered. A few light chuckles could be heard, this took the worry off her face due to her noticing no one believed she wished a camper would be harmed.

"Okay everyone" Priscilla said in order to get attention. "I will be leaving the camp soon to get a few supplies before the first few days of camp. I trust everyone will be on their best behavior. I should be back before dawn, feel free to use the fire pit and camp supplies to your own liking with supervision from Arnold."

We all looked and nodded in notice of her words. Before we could respond, she began to take her leave slamming the door to the cabin.

"Woohoo party tonight." George said ripping off his shirt and spinning it around. Zara and shockingly Alex began to cheer with him. Priya and Jesiah both had strained looks on their faces.

"We should just chill tonight guys, we really don't want to upset Priscilla." Priya said looking towards me to change the other's minds.

In truth, I wouldn't mind having a little party with the others. "I don't know." I said in response. "I think having a little party wouldn't hurt, we could get to know each other that way." Priya looked at me with a disappointed look on her face.

"What Naomi said." George agreed putting his arm around my shoulders and looking at Priya. Priya lifted her arms up slightly making a gesture like giving up.

"I have some alcohol put away near rock climbing area by the mineshaft we could drink." Alex said looking towards the rest of the group. "I'd need a few of you to come get it with me.

The thought of going to the mineshaft after everything that's happened there terrifies me. I had no idea that the area nearby was renovated to be a rock climbing area, who does that?

"Why don't Naomi and Jesiah go with you Alex." Said Zara nudging the two of us. "George and I know where everything is on camp and we could show Priya around while we gather a few things to make tonight fun."

"Fine by me." Alex said leaving the room. Before I could protest he was outside.

I guess I have no choice, I have to go now. After George let me go, he gave me a dirty look and I started to walk out of the cabin. It seems he's very uneasy about me being near Jesiah.

Once we got outside the cabin, Alex began speaking.
"The mineshaft isn't too far from here. The renovations are mostly on the outside but near where the mine elevator once was on the inside, climbing supplies are kept. I hid the alcohol in that area."

"Now why would you do that, the children could get to it." Jesiah said.

"Relax Jesiah, I planned on drinking it before they got here, on a night like tonight." Alex said in his own defense.

The three of us began walking, Alex a few paces ahead leading the way. Jesiah and I walked close together. I could tell we had a lot in common. He was much more reserved than his boyfriend, similar to I.

"So Jesiah what made you want to be a counselor this summer?" I asked.

"I always loved working with kids and I want to pursue a career with them. This job will help me get some experience before I get into teaching. How about you?" He replied.

Wow he is a very thoughtful person. "I kinda took this job because I'm a broke college student and it's one of the few jobs in this town." I answered. Compared to his answer I seem selfish but ultimately it's the truth.

"I don't blame you." He replied. "I don't live in this town but I know what happened, it's a horrible thing." He said and I nodded in agreement. "Did the mineshaft incident affect you?" He asked.

That's a very loaded question I thought. I don't really like to talk about it but it did effect me, deeply. I don't know what came over me but Jesiah seems like someone I could talk to about this situation. "Yeah my da-..."

"We're here." Alex said interrupting me. I looked up taking in the area. A large rock climbing area split into multiple sections, including a zip line at the top, was ahead of us. Directly in the middle was an area supported by wooden beams. I recognized it as the entrance to a mineshaft.
