O L I V I A - N A O M I
"Draw me nearer, nearer, blessed Lord, to the cross where Thou hast died; draw me nearer, nearer, nearer, blessed Lord, to Thy precious, bleeding side"
I sang lowly alongside the other members of the praise and worship team.
Something about this song!!!
It was just five of us on the team, the younger female members and our first lady though she isn't necessarily old.
We were now at the part of the service everyone anticipates, the end. Our pastor was about to do the benediction and we were all standing as a sign of reverence.
"The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace" we repeated together with our left hands raised.
As a child sitting in the congregation, I had always had trouble differentiating my left from my right.
It particularly took me a while to realize that the members on the pulpit's left is my right and I always had to set my hand in the position as if I were writing to know which was my left.I'm left-handed.
And no, I am not 'baff-handed' I have a lot of use.
To an extent that is."Just a brief reminder before leaving, the team that is going out to do the street ministry this evening is expected to return here this evening at 5:30 so that we can begin early and be off the road by 9:00. Please also be reminded that our annual Christmas Cantata Service will be held on Sunday, December 16 at 7:00pm and this will be headed by our youths and their very capable leader Sister Olivia Campbell. All other notices will be posted in the church WhatsApp group, have a lovely week God's people and be sure to share the word of God with at least one person this week." He added, and the congregation began gathering their stuff.
I sit on the pulpit with the praise team, our pastor, ministers, and musicians so my stuff had already been put together in an orderly fashion so all I had to do was take my bag and cup from the floor, place it on my chair and stand to straighten my dress before collecting them.
All I had really was just my new Stanley cup, my bible and my small handbag with my glasses, gum, lip gloss, face sponge, money, and my hand-held fan.
You know? The regular.
It was a regular after service ritual to stay and converse with each other, but I had things to do so I just bid everyone farewell and quickly made my way to my car.
Growing up I used to HATEE whenever church was dismissed, and my parents would stay back to greet all the members.
Apparently, I was not quick enough cause here I am answering Sister Madge, an elder in the church who was calling out my name while speedily walking towards me.
