ARZO
Today is the last day of the internship.
The wedding took place at weekends so I didn’t have to take days off from the office. Faizan said I could take the following week off but I only had to go three days before my internship was over so I refused.
F&F Innovation is most probably the top company I want to work at since I started searching for jobs.
But if I am going to apply at this company, I want to be interviewed fairly.
Winter break is starting this week as well. I will apply after the break is over and also start preparing for my final exams.
Few more months until I graduate.
My phone dings with a notification as soon as I’m on break.
Faizan
Come to my office when you’re done with work, amar.Instead of replying to his text, I make my way to the elevator to go downstairs to his office.
As the elevator opens and I make my way towards Faizan’s office, Farhan joins me.
“Assalamu Alaikum, bhabhi!”
“Wale Kum Assalam,” I sign, “Did Faizan call you to his office too?”
“Uh, no. I usually go to his office during break time to annoy him.” he says, “I’ll leave if you don’t want me there.”
“No, no, it’s okay. He probably wants to ask me something related to work.”
“Okay. Thank you, bhabhi!”
I give him a small smile then we make our way towards his office.
Faizan looks up as soon as we walk in. He frowns at Farhan, “why are you here?”
“It’s nice to see you too!” he says then plops on the chair across from him, “how are you doing?”
“I didn’t call you.”
“I am doing very well, thank you for asking.”
I let out a soft chuckle before I take my seat beside Farhan’s chair.
“Amar, why is he here?”
I shrug, “he said he always comes here during break time.”
“Yes, to annoy me.”
“I am no one to disturb his schedule.”
“You’re my wife. You can disturb whatever schedule he has to annoy me.”
“Awww, your love for me is so pure.” Farhan says.
“Leave, I need to talk to Arzo.”
“Go ahead. I don’t mind listening about our business.”
Faizan raises an eyebrow, “is that what you think I will talk about?”
“What else?”
“Hmm..” Faizan turns to me, “Amar, where do you want to go for our honeymoon-”
Farhan gags, “okay, I’m leaving.” he gets up from his chair and leaves the room after making another gagging sound.
“That’s why you called me?” I sign.
“Yes.”
“You could’ve asked that when we got home.”
“I could. But I didn’t want to.” he says, “so, where do you want to go?”
I shrug, then, “oh! I know! Bali! I always wanted to go there.” I say with a smile.
“Okay. Bali it is.” he says then starts typing on his computer.
I tap on his desk to get his attention, he looks up and I ask, “did you eat?”
“No.”
“Why not?”
“Don’t feel hungry.”
“Why not?”
He shrugs.
I let out a sigh and get up. I round the table and grab his hand, pulling him to get up.
He doesn’t complain and stands up. I smile and grab my bag from the chair and sign, “let’s go eat together.”
“Okay.”
I hold his hand as we exit his office and leave the building to go to the cafe across. The same place we met after he brought the proposal to my house.
We take our seat at the usual table placed by the window. We pick up our menu and place our order. We both end up ordering sandwiches and juices as drinks.
“Can I ask you a question?” I sign.
“Ask as many as you want, Qamari.”
I smile, “do you never eat at work?”
“Not always. Sometimes.”
“When is this sometimes?”
“Once a month.”
My eyes widen, “why? You leave work so late, why don’t you eat?”
“How do you know I used to leave work late?”
My cheeks heat, “Abbie mentioned it- not the point!”
“I’m fine not eating much.”
“You should take care of yourself. I am going to make sure you eat properly or else I’m not talking to you.”
“I can’t have you not talking to me, amar.”
I smile.
After a while our food arrives, we thank the waiter before he leaves then start eating.
“Tell me something I don’t know about you.” I ask randomly.
Faizan thinks for a while then nonchalantly says, “I know how to speak five languages.”
I freeze halfway chewing my sandwich at his answer while he continues to eat as if he didn’t just tell me what he just told me.
He looks up and notices my frozen position, “what?”
I swallow my bite and sign, “you know how many languages?”
“Five.”
“Which are?”
“Arabic, English, Urdu, Italian, Chinese.”
I blink at him, “How?”
“I read books in college and adapted them. Thought it would help in sealing deals internationally. I learnt urdu through Farhan because he talked a lot in his native language.”
“You’re so smart.”
“Thank you.”
“Why did you never tell me this before? What other secrets are you hiding from me, Faizan Malik?”
“I never considered it important.”
“Everything is important when it comes to you.”
He raises an eyebrow with a hint of smirk, “is it?”
My cheeks heat up and I nod.
“Okay, then, I’ll answer all your questions.”
