A people's-person; somebody who, while obliviously doing so, attracts people like a magnet by just being themself. He can write well, loves animals, delivers newspapers, an obvious Mama's boy, good-looking. Seriously, what was Griffin thinking? Billy wasn't doing this because he wanted to, he was doing it because he felt obliged to after seeing Griffin in such a pathetic state the other day.
He frowned at that thought. "I'm..gonna go." Griffin cut into whatever conversation the boys had been having previously. He could feel it. All those eyes on him. Bruce's, Finney's, Robin's, even Billy's. All the eyes felt like they were boaring through his skin.
He didn't waste any time waiting for a response, before turning on his heel, walking off. Stupid Billy, he found himself biting his cheek. His face was flushed in embarrassment, and he could feel tears welling up in his eyes.
He didn't get far, before he felt a hand, not rough or forceful, rest on his shoulder, and he immediately stopped. "Griff- Griffin, what's wrong?" He stood silently for a minute. He'd break if he said one more word. To his surprise, the voice didn't come again, and instead, patiently awaited an answer.
After a few minutes of silence, Griffin let out a shaky breath, "Billy- I just...this is stupid. Don't you think? I-I really like hanging out with you. I do. But- I don't want you to feel obligated to hang out with me. I don't want it to feel like some stupid chore that you're forced to burden with every day." Another whistling silence passed, and Griffin heard a faint murmur.
At first, he wasn't sure if it was just his brain blocking out the voices, or if it wasn't meant to be heard, before that same thing was repeated again, "Wha- shit, Griffin!" He turned his head slightly, looking at Billy, who stared at him wide-eyed. He didn't say anything. What else was there for him to say. "Is that..is that really what you think? No! No, no, no, no. I'm not doing it because I have to, I'm doing it because I want to! I want to hang out with you, Griffin. I literally went through 2 yearbooks just to figure out your name, and believe me when I say that it took forever." And he knew he shouldn't've, but Griffin found himself giggling slightly anyways.
Billy sighed, before releasing Griffin's shoulder. And much to his surprise, he didn't continue talking, didn't walk away, but instead, wrapped his arms around him, pulling him into a hug.
Griffin froze. That warm feeling in his face; it was back. But...he didn't feel embarrassed, did he?
