Yudhishthir was right.
It wasn't long before the guards spotted Hastinapur's flags coming through the kingdom doors, the speed at which it arrived announced their urgency.
" They're here, " I said to Yudhishthir, " Should we bring Dushasan out to warn them off? " I smirked and he smiled at me.
" Where's the fun in that. " He enveloped me in a soft hug, hands by my own against the railing.
" But wouldn't that raise questions of treachory? " I asked and he sighed, resting his head on my own.
" My dear darling queen, " He whispered, " I never said I'll be the one killing them, or that they'll die immediately after disagreeing with our decision. All I did say, was that, if anyone dares to counter my decision they'll be a part of Dushasan's death sentence. Mamashree or Duryodhan, both have to die, for what they did to you," He said, eyes hard, reflecting all our moments till now.
" Don't. Don't let revenge consume you, you know we're above that. Also, when did you get so cheeky, where is my Yudhishthir? Who are you! " I laughed softly as he smiled.
" It's not revenge Sagarika. It's my way of protecting any other woman who might have to face this under Duryodhan's rule. They must know, even touching a woman without her permission calls for having their arms cut off forever. "
" Samrat! " A voice roared and I frowned, when a sudden shockwave toppled me into Yudhishthir's arms, falling over as my hands dug into his.
" Samrat Yudhishthir! If you do not release the prince of Hastinapur now, you will have war with Hastinapur! " The voice thundered as we rushed down the stairs, to be encountered by the last person I could imagine.
Evidently, Yudhishthir felt the same as he dropped my hand in surprise.
" Pitamah? " He mumbled and I resisted the urge to kill myself.
Well played Shakuni. Well played.
" Samrat Yudhishthir, if you do not release the prince of Hastinapur now, you will be challenged fir a war. " He announced and Yudhishthir held my hand, nearly crushing it, as he raised his eyes, lips quivering.
" P-pitamah. Mahamahim Bhishm. Rajkumar Dushasan is our prisoner. He dared to hurt the princess of Indraprasth, touching her against her will and attempting to make provocative comments against the Samragyi. He will not be released to you. " His eyes hardened as he stared back at Mahamahim Bhishm.
" If that is your decision, then I will have to come to your gates with the army of Hastinapur and it's allies for war, " He said, " You have one more chance Samrat. Conceed to Hastinapur's pleas and you'll never have to worry about your son and daughter growing up without a father. " Then he sighed, " Please putr, listen to what I'm saying, " He said softly, his eyes tearing at the corners.
I've had enough.
I could hear my own slow caps echo in the assembly Hall, while the others came in, attracted to the commotion.
" Mahamahim Bhishm, didn't you do something similar, many, many years ago? Rescuing another drunk prince, just because he was your family? " I asked and he looked at me with wide eyes, twitching slightly.
" You come here again, with the same request. Panchal may have had to let your brother go, for fear of your prowess. But Indraprasth will not let her prisoner be free simply because someone is threatening us with war. " I scowled at him.
" If you know that, you also know putri that I warned Panchal Naresh, if he dared to keep Vichitraviry with him, he will have to suffer my wrath. Will Indraprasth suffer my wrath too? " He asked, eyes boring into mine.
" Sagarika -"
" Mahamahim Bhishm! I have already told you, the criminal of my sister's pain will not leave Indraprasth. If you dare to take him, you'll have to fight me. My sister is more important to me than any fear you might hold. I am warning you pitamah. Everytime the sons of Dhritarashtr mess something up, you are the one who they send to fix things. When will you understand that you're being manipulated! " I shouted.
" Following my dharm is not manipulation Samragyi, " He scolded, eyes sharp as he tracked the movement of Mini into the room.
" Your dharm? Your dharm! Your dharm cost you your kingdom! Do you not understand! You should never have sworn! And if you did! There is a time and place when we must go back on our words! Because that itself becomes the dharm! "
" You will teach me about dharm Samragyi? You yourself are a Kaliyugi, what more is to be expected, " He chided, eyes blazing.
" Mahamahim, please, leave the kingdom or I will kill your grandsom in front of you, if you do not leave, Rajkumar Dushasan will be burnt alive. And if anyone dares to stop me, they'll be burnt to death too -"
" Sakhi, " A soft voice called and I saw the same blue puff behind Pitamah, as Keshav, walked in, the usual, pleasing smile on his face.
" Vasudev? " Pitamah asked, befuddled.
" Panchali, oh Sakhi, please bring a bucket of water please, " He said and she looked at him confused, before leaving.
" Samragyi Sagarika, it is true that Dushasan is a prisoner of Indraprasth, but before that, he becomes the prisoner of Hastinapur too -"
" -absolutely not. If he leaves here, he will never repent -" But I felt my hand being gripped by his, his eyes warning me as he bent his head low to my ears, " Sakhi, trust me. Let Dushasan go. Please. " He released my hand, as I looked at Yudhishthir, who seemed to understand what Krishn wants.
" Guards, bring Rajkumar Dushasan back from the prison, " He said, " Nakul, calm down. I will talk to you later. With Krishn. " He said as he stormed out of the room, his brothers at his heels.
While Dushasan was brought back up, I saw Pitamah trying to say something.
" Pitamah, your words today have hurt me more than you could know. But it is true and I will never deny it that I was right and you were wrong. I know I am right. Because you are wrong. Kidnapping three women just because your Rajamata wanted them to marry your brother, rescuing your brother when he was clearly being punished for his sins, the punishment you have to Gandharaj's family when they refused to let Maharani marry Maharaj. You have been performing sins upon sins in the name of your binds to the throne. I hope, that before the final war, you realise the truth. " I said as Krishn sighed, nodding.
" Final war? " Pitamah asked, " What do you mean? "
" I mean, the war when Nakul kills Dushasan, Sahdev kills Shakuni and I, I am there for my family, whether it be by simply helping them, or being in the middle of the warfield, lighting adharm on fire, you forget, that other than being a Kaliyugi, I am also a flame. You said don't test my wrath. I'll repeat with a bit of clarity. Let the Yubraj of Hastinapur know, he shouldn't dare to test my fire. He saw what two of us did to his dyut sabha. Seven of us, will destroy his life." I stepped back, leaving the room.
Dushasan may have gotten away that day.
But no one can cheat or avoid death. Not even me.
