004. officer badass
╰── ❀ ✿ ღღ ❀ ✿ ──╯tim and penelope ate their food in near silence one the rest of the officers left. once tim decided it was time to leave, penelope quickly packed the rest of her food away and rushed into the shop after tim. the rookie and T.O had been driving for a while before tim pulled into a car park "i've decided on your punishment" he commented, not taking his eyes off the road. penny laughed at the words.
after a few seconds, he picked up on her supposed innuendo "you have a dirty mind" tim muttered.
"maybe..." she laughed "are you going to tell me what it is?"
"i'm actually more of a 'show you' kind of guy" he spoke as he got out of the car and walked up to two men who were standing on the sidewalk. "ghost head!" he yelled, prompting the men to try and walk away "no no, hold up a minute" he shouted, one of the men staying behind as the other left as quickly as he could.
"his name is ghost head? that's so cool!" penelope whispered to herself, making sure no one heard her.
"yo, this is harassment" ghost head protested.
"what? no, it's just good customer service. kind of like a frequent flyer program for dirt-bag drug dealers" tim patronised the man, looking towards a nervous looking penelope. she knew that a full blown fight between her and ghost head probably wouldn't end well for her so she was planning on being as peaceful as possible "search him, doc"
her 'peaceful' plan wasn't going to happen apparently "my pleasure" she replied sarcastically "turn around and grab the wall please"
"make me. doctor" he provoked. penny stepped forward, trying to turn him around herself. before she could, ghost head threw a punch at her. she recovered quickly, fighting back.
"keep your hands up, doc! don't let him get on top of you!" tim yelled when ghost head reached for her gun, keeling over when penny kneed him in stomach. she quickly used her foot to push him back down when he tried to get up again.
the rookie stepped over him and put him in a pair of handcuffs "you're under arrest" she half heartedly told the man before turing to face tim who was looking at her with a small smile "that was my punishment?" she asked, pretty happy considering she got to practice her ability to arrest people as big as ghost head.
"yes?" he replied, confused at the smile on her face despite the fact that a bruise was definitely forming "plus I got to see if you could handle yourself, so it's really a two-fer"
"that was awesome!"
"what?"
"i mean, i'm not the best physically but it's good practice, right? plus, i looked so badass!"
"well, are you going to read him his miranda rights?" he wondered condescendingly, eyebrows raised.
"oh, yeah!" she grinned "you're under arrest for resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer. anything you say can and will be used against you in the court of law. you have the right to an attorney. if you cannot afford an attorney, one will be appointed to you. do you understand these rights as i have read them?"
"yes"
"great" she chirped starting to haul ghost head towards the patrol car.
"when you're telling this story in lock up, you might want to leave out the part where you got your ass kicked by a girl" tim teased.
a woman suddenly came running out of the store yelling. penelope assumed she was a junkie, maybe one that ghost head was selling to. "hey, hey, hey! let him go! come on!"
"you stay right here, okay?" he held a hand out towards penny and ghost head "isabel?" penelope didn't hear much else. the pair spoke quietly enough that she only caught bits and pieces. that was until the woman, isabel, raised her voice.
"give me your money"
"god" tim looked up at the sky exasperated "i'll get you rehab" he negotiated.
"i don't need rehab!" isabel yelled, looking behind him to glance at penelope "come on, please" she begged.
tim dug out some cash from his pocket and gave it to her. as soon as it was safely in her hand, isabel ran away, down the alley next to the store. penelope looked at tim pitifully, having put the pieces together a little. "alright, well i'm gonna let you go with a warning to not try and fight the police again" she told ghost face.
"let me go?" he asked, surprised.
"yep, pleasure meeting you, mr ghost head" she said her goodbye, unfitting him and waving meekly (against her better judgement).
"yeah, you too officer badass" he chuckled, walking away slightly skeptical.
"hm, i like that. officer badass" she said to herself, getting caught up on it and glancing towards tom who still hadn't moved to face her "did you know that in california, you actually can't change your name legally to 'badass' because of the restri-"
"let's go" tim cut her off, getting in the car and slamming the door.
"yes, sir" she murmured to herself before getting in the shop as well. they sat in silence for a while as tim thought, not looking at penny even when he did speak up.
"that was my ex-wife" he admitted "i haven't seen her in almost a year"
"well to be fair people don't tend to have regular coffee dates with their ex's" she huffed, trying to lighten the mood just a little.
"well they do tend to try a meet up when their ex's leave them in the middle of the night, sign divorce papers a few days after and get hooked on drugs"
"you got me there"
"you won't..." tim sighed, reluctantly asking the question "you won't tell anyone, will you?"
"damn right i won't" penelope smiled.
