Drawing a deep breath, I walked around the small mound of dirt and entered the town proper.
I called it a village since that is what settlements are called in game.
But I'd made the place reminiscent of mountain resorts, with log cabins and surrounding the entire mountain with walls that towered half as high as the mountain itself.
Right now though, I'm about to enter my own creation.
As I walked in, I smiled gently.
The town was lively. There were some villagers that resembled the game version but the majority that were visible resembled players as Cat called us.
I was first noticed by a child. Blasted creatures always noticed me first...
Anyway, the kid noticed me and said something to its mother who looked up at me so fast I would've thought she got whiplash.
"Master Ragnar! Welcome back!"
This led to a cacophony as other townsfolk noticed me and greeted me as well.
I simply smiled and nodded as I walked through the happy crowd. Two golem walked around the corner then. They were named Bastion and Pillar.
They were in the early days of the town, when there were a few villagers around and I was busy mining resources to protect the place.
I had very little iron then but it was well spent creating the two. Anyway they grunted at me and passed me pushing the townsfolk away slight giving me a reprieve before I turned.
"I ... apologize for my attitude, I must do something of importance I'll return later."
There were shouts of assent as the crowd was dispersed and I allowed myself to relax. Turning around I gazed upon my greatest and first permanent build.
The Watch Tower.
It was a simply to tower built to 'warn'
Of incoming enemies but it had stood as my personal quarters holding everything I own.now that would have ro change. I would have to layer it with stone and eemover some of the windows so as to more efficient.
"Ragnar."
I turned and smiled slightly as I watched three familiar players join me through the crowd they gathered.
Are you three ready?"
"Alucard," the pale faced one with black clothing said.
"Garnet," the orange haired one said, wearing a blouse, shorts, and leather boots.
"Roxy," my last friend announced, giving a strained smirk, black haired with a red jacket unzipped and baggy pants.
"Alriggt let's get inside then and decide our next step."
---------------------
I led them to the third floor from towns level. There I sat and waited as I watched them get situated.
"Ragnar, what exactly is going on do you know?"
I smiled sadly at Alucard.
"No I don't I just woke up, honestly I don't remember what I was doing before then.
"Neither do we, we talked a little before you showed up, and we had the same experience..."
"Garnet, did you notice anything?"
The female player shook her head.
"Norhibg you probably haven't noticed," she said, "physics are somewhat applicable, villagers have bodies similar to ours and the old villagers are monks of some sort."
"Sounds normal enough," Roxy said, quietly, "do you think the other players who've visited this world were also pulled in?"
Alucard grimaced.
"I honestly hope not, some were griefers, tha vast majority weren't but people like them tend to pull in others like them."
I nodded in agreement.
"I think we should concentrate on surveying the land, my citadel was sturdy last playthrough, but something could've changed, we'll go together, after creating some iron golems."
"Yeah, the only reason we didn't make more of them before, was because we only feared the monsters and our...home is well lit and fortified against those," Alucard drawled.
"Yeah, now we have to worry about human invaders," Roxy scoffed.
"Either way, the citadel was built in such a way that the walls are an hours running distance from the spawn point. Speaking of...do you think we have the limited respawns or something?" I asked, tapping our desk anxiously.
"Honestly? I don't think we have either, just the one life..." Garnet trailed off, hugging herself.
The four sat in somber silence before I broke it.
"Welp enough dwelling, how is the hierarchy gonna work here, we need a chain of command, all four of us are players as Cat calls us and that means we are free runners," I explained watching their reactions.
"You."
I blink in confusion.
All three of us turn to Roxy.
"You're the realm master, you brought us together and even in our games and whatnot you always led, you're a strategist and thinker and you don't hesitate to fight. I think you're the best option."
I frowned thoughtfully.
"I agree."
"Are you sure Alucard?" I asked baffled.
"I mean the towns folk already look to you as leader and head figure," why incite a rebellion? I vote for you."
"I guess you're left Garnet," Roxy said slyly smiling.
The shy girl whimpered beofe enodding in agreement.
"I want Ragnar as leader."
I blinked before sighing.
"Very well, I'll do my best," I say before eyeing them in turn.
They were choosing me as leader I needed to choose their positions so as to keep busy.
"Alucard were you still training in stealth?"
"I am or rather was."
"Then you'll be the head of the scouts. Garnet you were our farmer and took care of food and animals I want you to act as stewardess. Roxy you replaced me when I wasn't able to make it to our games. You'll act as our general. If I want to do something you don't like, the three of you have the power to slow me down."
The three players nodded in assent before I sighed.
"We need another word for players, it sounds bad and honestly? I prefer Demiseer."
"Aluding to our extreme strength and our previous actions of managing and controlling the realm," Alucard mused, before nodding.
"Yes that does sound like something we are, and it makes sound proud and arrogant," he went on further, "and that will help differentiate."
"Plus the added fact that we changed the name will attract other...demiseers to us, won't it?"
"That is true, players are inherently curious and a name change like this is big," I said, smiling grimly.
(From here on i shall speak from third person. Its getting tiribg.)"Anyway, now that the serious stuffs over, where are we sleeping, Ragnar?" Garnet asked softly.
"Yeahs, whats gonna be our daily routine?" Roxy asked leaning back on her chair.
"Well for now we get used to this world," Ragnar began, "we have to get used to the lifestyle, combat daily life and we must learn...how relationships work in this world."
"What?!"
"Eww..."
"Seriously..."
Ragnar huffed blushing a bit but pushed through.
"Hey don't come to me when you fall in love with someone and you can't figure where it goes."
"Fine, everybody checks their bodies tonight," Alucard snarled although everyone could see his red face from where they were.
Speaking of night, let's locate our rooms, we're still bunking together right?"
"We kinda were...you think the villagers though we were fucking?"
"Dammit roxy!"
"If you don't want to bunk together I can open up other floors for you personal use," Ragnar acquiesced chuckling.
"No I don't wanna be alone, at least for now," Garnet muttered.
Ragnar smiled gently.
"I'm down for it," Ragnar added himself.
"Well let's go then," Alucard grumbled, standing from his post on the wall.
The four of them left the room, quietly making their way up the towers staircase. After the eighth floor they came up on a slightly larger then average room, ut was the highest room discounting their storage room containing all their valuables and treasure. Whish was built using cut stone and iron bars but that was another story.
As they entered their room it still looked the same.
Their four corners were separated by blinds that were pulled back, but it was still the same.
Ragnar stopped at his corner filled with furnaces and tool chests. On the wall hung his first iron sword.
Alucard stopped at his and on it hung maps and compasses. There was a cartography table and chests and bookshelves.
When Garnet stopped at hers there was pots holding flowers and her gardening equipment as well as her favorite enchanted hoe.
Roxy stopped at hers and smiled fondly. Hers was sparse, having been more interested battling griefers then decorating her part of the room.
In the center of the room, was a bookshelf with an enchanting table, at its center.
When they looked out the window they could see wide swathes of land, including meadow land and swampland.
"This is great," Ragnar murmured sitting on his bed, smiling at its softness.
"So we start pulling our shit tomorrow?" Roxy askedalready laying down.
"Yes for now we check our stuff and sleep once night comes, then tomorrow we announce our decision."
Unknown to them, a counter hidden far away finished loading fifty to fifty....
