Bill's POV
It was yet another meaningless chase for the thrill. I was so used to the fights that they all seemed the same. You arrive, kill a few people, run for your life, then do it all over again.
I watched as she hid behind the concrete wall, occasionally peeking with the gun stretched forward. She looked tired. Bored, just like me.
I tried to catch her blue eyes. Gustav and Georg still had no idea of my obsession. It was almost like the chase to find Tom had now turned into the chase to find Mila. There was something fundamentally wrong with me.
Their men moved closer to us, opening fire, and she moved along with them. Georg pulled his gun right in her direction and shot. The first time, she avoided it. The second time, she ran from her hiding spot. He was in for the kill. He aimed a third time as she ran across the room.
"Fuck it!" I kicked the gun out of his hand.
"The fuck are you doing?" He looked at me angrily, then looked at her. He caught me.
"Georg..." I started.
"Stop!" he pushed me aside, furious.
I ran after her right in the middle of the bullet rain. She looked back, scared, and took off to the side of the building. She was a good fighter but not so good of a runner. I caught her pretty fast.
I yanked her from behind to the ground, then pushed her right back up by her shoulders.
"Look at me!" I screamed at her. She didn't look me in the eyes.
Bullets erupted over our heads, so I pushed her down once again, leaning over her body in case someone hit us. It was pitch black, almost impossible to see who was who.
She pulled me off her, kicking me with her legs. I pulled her back down, pushing her into the ground with all the force I had. She hit her head.
"Sorry!" I managed to gasp as she hit me right between my legs.
"Shit, Mila! You won't get kids if you keep doing this!" I shouted in pain.
She stopped fighting me.
"What the fuck?" Her large eyes stared at me. I enjoyed my ability to always shock her with my words.
"You heard me!" I looked into her eyes.
"I told you, I won't ruin my beautiful body for you!" Her voice sounded almost as if she was holding back laughter.
I grabbed her hand and pulled her across the ground to the side entrance of the building. She kept wobbling on the ground. I knew it hurt her, but I had to get her out of there somehow, she wouldn't come with me by herself. So I simply dragged her to the door and pulled her out of the building.
"Help!" she shouted as loud as she could. I closed her mouth with my hand, holding her tight.
"Stop screaming!" I begged her. She was consumed by adrenaline, still wobbling in all directions trying to escape my grip.
"Stop, please!" I let my hand loose from her mouth. She looked at me like a trapped animal. "Please..." I begged once more.
She pushed her gun into my face right away.
"I don't care. Shoot me if you want." I put my hand on her gun, helping her steady the grip. I trusted her enough to know she wouldn't pull the trigger.
She slowly lowered the gun, still lying on the ground under me.
"I can't do this anymore," she exhaled her words, letting her hands fall to the ground.
"Why are you doing this? Why are you fighting me so desperately?" I sat next to her, giving her personal space.
I decided to lay beside her.
We both looked up at the night sky, the sounds of bullets like fireworks in the background.
"I am tired," I told her.
"Me too," she replied.
I rolled myself closer to her, so our bodies touched. I felt her breathing next to me. Our breaths synchronized.
Then I reached my fingers to hers, and without asking, entwined mine with hers.
She looked at me, pissed off, pulling her hand away. She got up all of a sudden, fire burning in her eyes once again.
"Leave me alone!" Her voice rose up again.
"I won't. I can't," I stood up too.
"You have to! I don't understand what you want from me!" She pushed me away.
"I want nothing from you!" I stepped closer.
"You keep saying that, yet you show up every time. You chase me like an animal. I can't do this anymore!" She turned away from me.
"You want me to leave you alone? Fine, I will stop going after you. Is this what you want?" I hoped she would say no, but she said yes.
"I want you to be gone for good! Leave this town, go back to Germany!" she screamed in my face.
"I won't leave unless I take you with me!" I was done playing games. I was done lying to myself, to her, to everyone else.
"I will never go with you!" she sharply snapped back at me. Those words cut right through me like a knife.
