It's been a couple of weeks since Brendon appeared at the Coffee Bean. I thought I had made my feelings clear. However, it appears that I was mistaken. Ever since that night, Brendon has continually been trying his luck with me, even though I have made it abundantly clear that I am NOT interested.
Walking into the school cafeteria, I see Shauna already seated waving me over to our usual table. I quickly grab some food and make my way over to her. Suddenly, I feel as if someone's eyes are on me. Looking up, I see Brendon grinning at me with that goofy look he has. Man, he does not give up easily. It seems the more I reject him, the more interested he becomes. Today, however, he seems to have a new trick up his sleeve.
Making my way over to Shauna, I feel a sudden tug on my foot, which sent me crashing to the floor, my lunch tray landing with a crash sending me and my lunch flying across the room. I look up, mortified, to see Brendon grinning cheekily, surrounded by his cronies, including his usually calm sidekick Brent, who was struggling to muffle his laughter. My cheeks burn with embarrassment and anger as I glare at Brendon.
"WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK BRENDON??" I scream at him, picking myself up from the floor. Before I knew it, the red mist has descended, and my fist connects squarely with his jaw, and the satisfying crunch reverberates through the now-silent cafeteria. For a moment, I just stood there, breathing hard, shocked at my own boldness. Then, as Brendon's friends rush to his aid, I feel a sense of satisfaction mixed with trepidation. Brent, usually the epitome of calm, meets my gaze with a mix of surprise and newfound respect.
"Damn, Carlyn! You really got him good!" he exclaims, his eyes wide.
Brendon's friends, who had been sitting at a nearby table, suddenly look up, realizing something interesting was happening. A few students snickered, and I feel my face flush even deeper. I wasn't used to being the centre of attention, especially not like this."Well, damn, Carlyn." He says, rubbing his face. "I knew you had a temper, but I never expected that. You've certainly got some fire in you, haven't you?" he said, sounding almost impressed. I feel my face flush, a mix of anger and embarrassment washing over me. "Don't push me, Brendon," I hiss at him. "You had it coming, and you know it."
Shauna quickly appears at my side, her hand resting gently on my shoulder.
"We should probably get out of here before this turns into an all-out brawl," she says, her voice laced with concern and amusement. I can feel the stares of the entire cafeteria boring holes into my back as she pulls me away, a path swiftly clearing before us like we were Moses parting the Red Sea. The buzz of chatter and whispers follows us out, and I can't help but feel a mix of triumph and anxiety about the impending fallout."Oh my god, Carlyn, you actually punched him! That was epic! Brendon certainly got more than he bargained for there. It's been a while since I've seen you that mad. It was like the time Billy Miller stole your book bag and threw it up into the tree in 4th Grade. Remember when you body slammed him into the tree and kicked him in the nuts?" She continues. laughing. "I've never seen a boy cry so hard in my life."
"Yeah, well, he was an asshole and so is Brendon.fuckin.Urie," I huff storming up the hallway to Art class. As I'm early and first to arrive, I was first to see the sign on the class door telling us to head to the auditorium. Making my way there, I shove in my earphones, listening to Fall Out Boy. This usually helps to calm me, but for some reason, it's not helping me today. Pulling out my sketch book, I begin to work on my homework. The bell rings, signalling the end of lunch and the start of the next period. The rest of the class slowly began to enter, still talking about the incident between Brendon and I in the cafeteria.
** Brendon's POV **
As I stood there, rubbing my freshly punched jaw, I couldn't help but feel a rush of adrenaline and excitement. Carlyn had just left me reeling, and I loved it. It was a strange feeling; I'd never been attracted to someone who stood up to me before. Usually, I was the charismatic, confident charmer, accustomed to getting my way with girls. But this... this was different. This was a challenge. "Dude, you okay there?" Brent asks, interrupting my dazed thoughts, his blonde hair falling into eyes filled with concern. "Yeah, man, I'm fine." I grinned, shaking off the slight dizziness from the unexpected blow. "Actually, I'm more than fine. That girl's got spirit!"
