Y/N and Kishou Arima had been inseparable since they were children. Living next door to each other, they spent countless hours playing in their backyards, walking to school together, and sharing secrets under the shade of the large oak tree that grew between their houses. Kishou was a lively, sweet boy, his laughter a constant presence in Y/N's life. He was her best friend, her confidant, and her partner in every childhood adventure. One day, as they walked home from school, everything changed. As they approached Kishou's house, they saw something that would haunt them forever. The front door was ajar, and the once peaceful home was now a scene of horror. Blood stained the walls, and the air was thick with the metallic scent of violence. Kishou's eyes widened in terror, his hand tightening around Y/N's as they stood frozen on the sidewalk.
The sight of his family home in such a state shattered Kishou. He dropped to his knees, tears streaming down his face as he cried out for his parents. Y/N, equally traumatized, stood beside him, her heart breaking for her friend. The sound of sirens grew louder, and moments later, CCG investigators arrived, quickly assessing the scene and securing the area.
One of the investigators, recognizing Kishou, gently lifted him to his feet. " Hey there, I'm Marude. You must be Kishou, we're going to take you somewhere safe," the man said, his voice kind but firm. Kishou's eyes, filled with anguish, met Y/N's one last time before he was led away.
Y/N didn't know where they were taking him or what would happen next. All she knew was that her best friend, the boy who had been her constant companion, was gone. The days that followed were a blur of confusion and sorrow. Y/N's world had been turned upside down, and the absence of Kishou left a gaping hole in her heart.
Years passed, and Y/N's loneliness became a driving force in her life. She dedicated herself to her studies, determined to become strong enough to protect those she cared about. The memory of that horrific day fueled her resolve, and she set her sights on joining the CCG, just like Kishou's father. It became her dream job, a way to honor the family that had been so cruelly torn apart.
After graduating from the academy, Y/N was assigned to a team of investigators. Her first day on the job was filled with a mix of excitement and nervousness. As she walked through the bustling halls of the CCG headquarters, she couldn't help but think of Kishou and wonder where he was now. Had he found peace? Had he managed to rebuild his life?
As she was about to enter the briefing room, a familiar voice stopped her in her tracks. "Y/N?"
She turned, her heart skipping a beat. There, standing in the doorway, was Kishou. He was no longer the lively boy she remembered. His eyes were colder, his demeanor more serious, but there was no mistaking him. Kishou Arima had grown into a formidable young man, and despite the changes, Y/N felt a rush of warmth at the sight of her old friend.
"Kishou," she breathed, her eyes welling with tears.
He stepped forward, his expression unreadable. "You must be mistaken," he said, his voice devoid of any recognition. "Do I know you?"
Y/N's heart sank at his words. "It's me, Y/N. We grew up together. Don't you remember?"
Kishou's gaze remained impassive. "I'm sorry, but I don't recall. My past is not something I dwell on."
Y/N's eyes filled with tears. "But we were best friends. We went through so much together."
Kishou's expression softened slightly, but his eyes remained distant. "I'm sorry, Y/N. My life before the CCG is a blur. My parents were killed by ghouls, and I was taken in by the CCG. They became my family, and I abandoned everything else."
Y/N nodded, her heart breaking anew. "I understand," she whispered. "It's just...I never forgot about you."
Over the following weeks, Y/N made it her mission to help Kishou remember their past. She would subtly bring up memories, mentioning their childhood games and the secrets they had shared. At first, Kishou's responses were cold and dismissive, but Y/N persisted. She shared stories of their adventures, the laughter they had shared, and the dreams they had once had.
One evening, after a particularly grueling mission, Y/N found herself sitting beside Kishou in the quiet of the CCG's break room. The exhaustion was evident on both their faces, but Y/N saw a flicker of something in Kishou's eyes. Hopeful, she began to talk about the oak tree between their houses.
"Do you remember that old tree, Kishou?" she asked softly. "We used to carve our initials into the trunk and pretend it was our secret base."
For a moment, Kishou's expression softened. "I...I think I remember," he murmured, a distant look in his eyes.
Encouraged, Y/N continued. "We spent so many afternoons there, dreaming about the future. You always said you wanted to be a hero, just like your dad."
Kishou's eyes met hers, a glimmer of recognition in their depths. "I did say that, didn't I?"
Y/N smiled, tears of relief welling up. "Yes, you did. And you know what? You are a hero, Kishou. You've saved so many lives."
Kishou's gaze softened, and for the first time in years, Y/N saw a hint of the boy she had known. "Thank you, Y/N," he said quietly. "For not giving up on me."
From that day on, Kishou began to remember more and more of their shared past. It was a slow process, but with Y/N's support, the memories gradually returned. The bond they had once had was rekindled, and Y/N felt a renewed sense of hope and purpose.
