The year is 1950, and I had recently moved from my hometown, Sheffield, and I now lived in Brighton.

I was on a walk along the Brighton seafront, all alone, looking down at the sand underneath my feet.

Until

Suddenly I bumped into someone. And I quickly apologised.

"I'm so sorry I wasn't seeing where I was going- are you alright?"

I looked to the person in front of me.

"Yes i'm fine, are you though?"

I nodded and chuckled. "Yeah I'm alright"

We kind of just stared at each other for a moment before he spoke.

"Do you wanna come over and have coffee at my house?"

"That would be nice"

I then followed him to his house. It was around a ten minute walk.

I sat on a chair in his living room as I waited for him to make the coffee.

He soon sat down on a chair beside me and handed me a cup of coffee, him holding another in his right hand.

"I'm Miles by the way" He said and held his other hand out, to shake mine.

"I'm Alex" I said as I shook his hand.

We both sat in silence for a moment, just drinking our coffee.

"So where do you live?" He asked after a while.

"We're neighbours actually" I said with a small chuckle.

I saw his eyes slightly widening when I said that, and he raised his eyebrows as well. "Really?" He asked and I nodded in response, taking a sip of my coffee.

I looked at the clock on my wrist. "Hey I need to go now, but we'll talk some other time, yeah?" I said as I stood up.

He stood up as well and nodded. "Yeah"

He followed me to the door and waved me goodbye as I left.

I walked home and went to my room, then sat down on my bed with a sigh.

Me and my wife had gotten a divorce when I moved to Brighton, so I lived all alone since she took the kids.

I stared at the wall for a while before standing up and walking to the kitchen, making a sandwich and eating it. I didn't have a lot of energy since I had been working a lot today, so I just made a sandwich.

I then went back to my room and laid down on my bed, sighing to myself, before closing my eyes.
