The cafe door chimed, a familiar melody that always sent a jolt of nervous excitement through Felix. He glanced over the espresso machine, a wide grin splitting his face when he saw you. You were bundled up like a little penguin in a navy peacoat, a red knitted hat perched precariously on your head, snowflakes clinging to your eyelashes like tiny diamonds.
"Hey, Felix," you said, your breath misting in the cool air. You brushed the snow off your shoulders and shuffled towards the counter, your heart already doing a nervous tap dance in your chest. It had been weeks since your last interaction, and Felix's sunny personality had a way of leaving you feeling butterflies were permanently taking up residence in your stomach.
"Hey, Y/N!" Felix chimed, his smile reaching his bright, freckled eyes. "Looks like winter decided to ambush us today!"
"Something like that," you admitted, rubbing your gloved hands together. "Can I get my usual?"
Felix nodded enthusiastically, already reaching for the coffee grinder. "One hot chocolate coming right up, with extra marshmallows for extra snow!"
He worked his magic on the espresso machine, his movements infused with an energy that always seemed to brighten the entire shop. You watched him, mesmerized, the way his tongue peeked out in concentration as he frothed the milk reminding you of a mischievous puppy. You were captivated by the way his laughter lines deepened when a joke played on the cafe speaker made him chuckle.
"Here you go," Felix announced, placing the steaming mug on the counter. "Be careful, it's hot!"
You cradled the mug in your hands, the warmth seeping through the ceramic, chasing away the lingering chill. You took a tentative sip, savoring the rich chocolate and the dusting of cinnamon on top.
"It's delicious," you complimented sincerely, surprised by how easily the words flowed out.
Felix beamed. "It's nothing compared to your artwork, though. Still haven't seen your painting for the upcoming exhibition, have I?"
Your cheeks flushed. You were an aspiring artist, and your upcoming solo exhibition was a huge deal for you. Felix, surprisingly, was one of your biggest supporters. Ever since you'd confided in him about your art during a particularly slow afternoon shift, he'd made a point of asking about it regularly, his genuine interest fueling your passion.
"Actually," you began, your voice a little shy, "I brought a sneak peek today, if you wouldn't mind taking a look."
"Really?" Felix's eyes widened. "Of course, I'd love to!"
You fished out a small, rolled-up canvas from your bag. With trembling hands, you unfurled it, revealing a stunning cityscape bathed in the golden light of dusk. The vibrant purples and oranges bled into a deep blue twilight, the city lights twinkling like fireflies against the darkening canvas. It was a scene you'd witnessed a million times while sketching on your rooftop, but somehow, on the canvas, it felt imbued with a magic that surprised even you.
Felix stared at it, speechless for a moment. Then, a slow smile spread across his face, his eyes sparkling with admiration.
"Wow, Y/N," he breathed, his voice filled with genuine awe. "It's incredible! The way you captured the light... it's like you bottled the feeling of a perfect summer evening."
Warmth bloomed in your chest. You'd never seen anyone react to your art with such pure joy. "Thank you," you whispered, feeling a connection build between you and Felix that went beyond coffee orders and friendly banter.
"You're an amazing artist," he declared, his gaze lingering on you for a beat too long. You felt his sincerity in every word.
Silence hung between you for a moment, a comfortable quiet that somehow felt charged with unspoken emotions. Suddenly, the radio blared a cheesy love song, causing Felix to blush furiously.
"Uh... maybe you could come to the exhibition?" he blurted out, his voice a touch higher than usual.
You blinked in surprise. "The exhibition? Of course, I'd love to!"
Felix seemed relieved. "Great! And maybe, after that, we could... I mean, if you wanted... go out sometime?"
His awkwardness mirrored your own, and you couldn't help but laugh. The sound of it echoed in the near-empty cafe, a burst of warmth in the winter air.
"I'd like that," you replied, a genuine smile warming your face.
Felix's face lit up like a Christmas tree. "Really?"
"Really," you confirmed, taking another sip of your hot chocolate. The world outside might be cold, but your heart felt warm and cozy, filled with the promise of something new.
"i am glad you agreed, i love you Y/N"
"me too lixie!" you said and pulled his cheeks, and he just smiled.
