The morning light filtering through the blinds was flickering, mirroring the fluttering feeling I felt in my stomach. Today was the day. My editor, had called a few days ago, her voice buzzing with excitement. She wanted me to come to Missouri, to sit down and talk about my potential books, really delve into the possibilities.
Daya, ever the supportive boyfriend, was equally thrilled for me. He'd even managed to squeeze in a catch-up with his friends, Crystal and Lux whilst we were there, since they already lived in Missouri. It was our first mini-holiday together, a chance to explore a new city and a hotel room, just the two of us.
I climbed back into bed, nuzzling my sleepy man. He was a bear in the mornings, groggy and grumpy, his blue eyes still clouded with sleep. I spent a few moments simply holding him, relishing the warmth of his body against mine, and trying to wake him as gently as I could.
Eventually, Daya managed to wake up enough to pull himself out of bed and started packing his bag up. His brow furrowed as he rummaged through his drawers, a whine escaping his lips.
"Shit, We're out of condoms Sco," he mumbled, his voice hoarse with sleep.
I smiled, the nervousness in my stomach replaced by a playful warmth. "It's okay baby, we don't need any. Just lube will do."
He looked at me, a flicker of concern in his blue eyes. "Are you sure? I don't want to hurt you."
I reached out and cupped his face, my thumb tracing the line of his jaw. "I'm sure. Trust me baby, I know what I'm doing anyway, you're always so gentle."
Daya's apprehension lingered, but he eventually relented, a small smile playing on his lips.
Packing finished, we finally made our way out of the apartment, I said a tearful goodbye to Bandit, who Irene was incharge of for the next few days. I'd left rather extensive instructions for her on top of his cage.
The air outside seemed thick with the promise of a new adventure. Daya was always protective of me in crowded spaces, and kept his hand on my thigh as we rode in the Uber to the airport. His touch was a constant reassurance, grounding me in the whirlwind of anticipation that I was feeling.
The airport was a familiar hub of activity, the air buzzing with conversations and the hum of luggage belts. With Daya carrying our bags, we navigated the check-in and security with ease. It really did pay to have a big strong boyfriend travelling with you.
Once settled on the plane, I got comfortable in my seat, snuggling against Daya's side. He was already asleep, his head resting on my shoulder, and I couldn't resist the urge to run my fingers down his perfect face.
The flight was a blur of anticipation, punctuated by the soft snores of my sleeping boyfriend. When we finally landed in Missouri, I was ready to embrace the new experiences that awaited us out there.
As we exited the airport, our bags in hand, Crystal was waiting for us. He was a whirlwind of energy, a tall, tanned figure with a charming smile and a curly brown mullet that framed his face. He practically leaped into Daya's arms, knocking him off balance with a playful hug. Then, he was rushing over to me, engulfing me in a warm embrace.
"Bosco! It's so good to see you!" he said, his voice booming with excitement.
He then proceeded to help us load our luggage into his car, his infectious energy making me feel a sense of belonging, a warmth that radiated through me.
As we pulled away from the airport, the setting sun painting the sky in shades of orange and purple, I looked over at Daya, his hand resting reassuringly on my thigh. He was gazing out the window, a hint of a smile playing on his lips.
