Come Wednesday night Bastian looks at himself in the mirror, again.
"Bash are you ready?" Atticus calls, tying his shoes.
"Are you sure I look ok? I wanna look snazzy but not uptight. And I definitely don't wanna look like the slob I am."
The redhead laughs and walks over to his boyfriend. He unbuttons two of them and rubs his shoulders. "You look fine. It's definitely better than the suit you wanted to wear."
"Isn't that what normal guys wear when meeting the parents? They wanna make the best impression they can."
"Bash I would have preferred you in jeans and a polo."
"I can still put that on."
"This is fine babe. Just calm down and relax. You'll do just-"
"If you say fine again I'm not going."
"You'll be perfect." Atticus whispers and kisses his boyfriend. They finally make it to his parent's house and instead of knocking Atticus just walks in.
Bastian's eyes widen slightly but he follows quietly.
"Atticus is that you?" A woman calls walking over.
"Yeah ma, it's me." The man calls back.
Bastian looks at the mother and blushes softly. He shakes his head and holds out the bouquet in his hands.
"Yellow roses for me? Thank you Bash." She responds, taking the flowers. "They're beautiful."
"Friendship and new beginnings." Bastian explains, rubbing his cheek with his finger.
"Wonderful. I'll go put these in some water. Your father is in the dining hall."
"Do you need help in the kitchen mom?"
"If you want to help go introduce Bastian to your father." The woman sighs and walks away."Your father...?"
"You're gonna start panicking soon. Just take a deep breath and relax. He's not gonna hurt you ok?"
The white haired man holds the braid Atticus made in his hair and takes a few breathes.
"There ya go. Everything will be just fine. I promise."
"But he hates me. How is everything gonna be ok?"
A butler walks out of a nearby room and looks at Atticus. "Your father is waiting."
"Is that a butler? Do you have servants here? Are you secretly an 1800's noble?"
"Yes now smile and relax." The redhead grabs his boyfriend's hand and leads him to the dinning hall.
The stern man is sitting at the head, fingers laced under his chin."Father, thank you for the invitation."
"Is this Bastian Fox? Son of Marian and Gregor Fox. Self proclaimed hippies living on the outskirts of the city."
"Father!"
"It's ok Atti, neither my parents or I are ashamed. They are proud and provide, just as your parents do. Sir, it's a pleasure to meet you."
"What makes you think you're worthy of my son and inheritance?"
"I had an answer for that question but it doesn't seem right anymore. I love your son, like a lot. I thought I was going to find a girlfriend, have kids and live happily ever after. Then Atticus came along and everything changed."
"You don't have to explain yourself Bash."
"He deserves to know Atti."The father remains silent as he listens.
"My feelings for him grew and I confessed, although I didn't give him a chance to respond, just thinking he had no interest. Thankfully I was wrong and he felt the same as me. When he told me he was a top it felt as though my body chemistry changed to immediately be submissive to him. I didn't think I'd ever be a bottom but I need to be his. My father was also upset about not having grandkids but if you so wished I would go through the process. Not now but eventually when we're ready."
Atticus blushes deeply and looks between his boyfriend and father.
The man sits back in his chair, crosses his arms then legs.
"I get into the mindset of self doubt and I do think I'm not worthy of him... but then he turns around and tells me how perfect a boyfriend I am. I make him jealous just by being myself. So I think we work as a couple. Please except me as a future son-in-law."Atticus blushes as dark as his hair. He nearly forgot they planned on getting married eventually.
"So you think you're worthy of my inheritance?"
"It won't be me who inherits anything from you. It will be your wife and son. And if you think I'm the type of person who would manipulate my partner into letting me use any of it, you're sorely mistaken. That is his to do with as he pleases."
"What are your plans after college Bastian?"
"I will be a traveling translator. I will join people on their journey to Russia and help translate as well as act as a guide. I am fluent in Russian and extremely well versed in everything Russia."
"How do you expect to have a relationship if you are gone constantly?"
"He will have a job of his own to focus on. We will call and text everyday. When I return I will stay with him for a while before leaving again unless something happens. We're both ok with this plan. We have talked it over extensively, I assure you."Finally the man turns to his son.
Atticus crosses his arms. "Are you finished yet?"
"Jerry stop grilling the poor boy." The mother scolds, walking in.
"Shelia I had questions I needed to ask. It's my job as a father."
"Bastian is the best boyfriend and he is a good human being. I know the challenges we'll face and I'm ready to face them with him. He loves me and I..."
The white haired man smirks and looks at his boyfriend.
"I love him." Atticus finishes and glares at his boyfriend.
"Why are you glaring?" Jerry asks, looking between the two boys."He told me I wasn't allowed to say love because we don't know each other enough. Which I think is no longer true, seeing as how we've known each other for many years and now that we're dating we've learned even more."
Shelia smiles at their guest then crosses her arms and gives her husband 'the look'.
The said man tenses and looks at his wife. "What's wrong darling?"
"He got that from you. He's too afraid to love anyone because of you."
"Please don't start this now. I want Bash to like you two.""Atti they're your parents. I'm gonna love them as much as I do my own parents." Bastian informs and smiles softly.
"Oh how sweet. Welcome to the family dear. I can't wait to meet Marian and Gregor." Shelia puts her hand over her heart.
"If I could request salad for dinner if they are invited?"
"Of course. Serving a meat dish would be disrespectful. Do you share their ways?"
"No. I'm a hardcore carnivore. Mom called me feral when we went out last."
"I see. Let's hurry and eat before the food gets cold."The four keep small talk going through the meal and dessert.
Thankfully they all had a nice time.
Bastian even gets a firm handshake from Jerry.
"You're welcome here Bastian. Although I request to remain in the dark about my son's sexual experiences and the such."
"Understood sir."
"As long as he's safe and you're both clean I don't mind." Shelia adds, smiling kindly.
"Guys~" Atticus whines walking over.
"What? Do you think your father and I don't know you're more than likely having sex? You're an adult. It was bound to happen at some point. Were you a virgin as well Bastian?"
The said man blushes but nods. "Yes."
"See? You're-"
"Mom stop."
"Shelia let them be. They need to get back and rest. They have classes tomorrow." Jerry puts his hand on his wife's shoulder. After the mother kisses their cheeks they leave.
"Should we go to the dorm or apartment?"
"I have work in the morning but you can spend the night if you want. Your class is in the afternoon so you can sleep in and surround yourself with my scent and memory."
Atticus blushes and holds his hand. "Sounds good to me."
The two make it to the dorm and change into comfortable pjs.
They lay in bed and Atticus holds Bash close.
"I hope tonight wasn't too bad."
"It was nice. I'm glad I was open and straightforward."
Atticus smiles and kisses his head. "Goodnight."
"Sweet dream." Bash whispers before falling asleep himself shortly after.
