The next day everybody woke with one mission in mind— find Sophia Peletier. Rick rolled out the arsenal Carl had found yesterday, Maisie sneaking a glance at the weapons. "Everybody takes a weapon."
"These aren't the kind of weapons we need." Andrea scoffed, bouncing on her hip with attitude— specifically towards Dale. "What about the guns?"
"We've been over that." Shane nodded from the back, "Daryl, Rick and I are carrying. We can't have people popping off rounds every time a tree rustles." He explained as everyone grabbed their weapon of choice from the selection, besides Maisie, she had already decided she was going with her dad today— even though she hadn't exactly asked him yet.
"It's not the trees I'm worried about." Andrea retorted with a tight frown.
"Say somebody fires at the wrong moment, a herd happens to be passing by— See, then it's game over for all of us." Shane replied bitterly to the blonde, "So, you need to get over it."
"The idea is to take the creek up about 5 miles, turn around and come back down the other side." Daryl began to explain to the group. "Chances are she'll be by the creek. It's her only landmark."
"Stay quiet and stay sharp, keep space between you but always stay within sight of each other." Rick announced.
"Everybody assemble your packs." Shane instructed as he stuffed a water bottle into his bag.
Maisie followed Rick as he walked towards Dale, who was staying behind today to work on the RV. "Dale, keep on those repairs. We've got to get this RV ready to move."
"Won't stay here a minute longer than we have to." Dale nodded, standing up from where he was sitting. "Good luck out there. Bring Sophia back."
"Keep an eye on Carl and Maisie while we're gone?" Rick asked, looking down at Maisie who was right by his side and then at Carl.
"Nuhuh." Maisie shook her head.
"I'm going with you." Carl replied, squinting his eyes at the sun. "You need people, right? To cover as much ground as possible."
"Me too." Maisie added.
Rick huffed, looking at Lori for her to decide. "Your call, I can't always be the bad guy."
"I've decided already." Maisie nodded confidently, crossing her arms with a smile. Rick looked down at her with a jokingly taken back look, mixed with shock at her confidence and proudness.
"Well, they have all of you to look after them." Dale reasoned, leaning against the door frame of the RV. "I'd say he's in good hands."
"Okay, okay." Rick gave in, holding his hands out. "But always within our sight, no exceptions." He said before walking away, Maisie skipping after him.
"Dad." Maisie asked him, making sure to drag out the word as he stopped in front of one of the cars, looking forward.
"Yeah?" He responded, looking down at her.
"Can I carry the gun I found earlier?" She asked, trying to put on her most childish— pleading tone so maybe he would feel convinced and let her.
Rick snorted and shook his head, putting his hand down on her shoulder. "No way, not until you learn how to use one, which isn't now." He told her, his tone gentle despite the importance of his words.
