Up In Flames

Chapter Three

"Why don't you come help us? We could use more people with medical knowledge.", Sharon said encouragingly.

"I would but Gabi wants me to help her with swim class, to ensure that she has medical on standby as precaution. Plus I should probably warn her about the storm.", Nadia said as they were walking out of Smokey's.

"Do you not read texts?", was the first thing Nadia said as she saw Gabi in the pool still teaching her swim class.

 "No my phone is in my bag.", Gabi answered confused. 

"You need to get these kids out of the pool. The is a dry lighting storm fixing to hit right here.", Nadia told Gabi. 

"Can you help get the kids in the building?", Gabi said, getting out of the pool.

"Yeah. Alright everyone listen up. I need all of y'all out of the pool right now. Don't worry about grabbing your bags, just garb your shoes okay?", Nadia stated to the kids. 

As she was leading the kids around the corner, she ran right into Manny. "Manny where can we put these kids?", Nadia asked.

"Right in this building. We're looking for a bus to take you all home. But for now, the safest thing for us to do is find a roof and put it over your head. All right? Everything is gonna be just fine.", Manny answered.

"Go, go, go, go. Come one. It's gonna be okay. Hey, Dad.", Gabi said as rushed the last few kids into the building.

Shocked to his daughter here, "Gabriela? What are you doing here?", Manny asked his daughter.

"She is the one who the swimmers out of the pool.", Nadia said stating the obvious.

Manny just shook his head at the other girl, and turned back to his daughter. "No, what are you doing here today?", Manny questioned her.

"Teaching diving to the campers. I need a job if I'm gonna live here."

All of sudden Bode came running towards Manny and the two girl's. "If you're gonna be out here, you need cover.", Bode said as he extended a helmet. Manny did not look happy about it. 

"Good looking out, thank you.", was the only Gabi said, grabbing the helmet from Bode. 

"Well this is awkward. I am going to go inside and make sure the kids are okay.", Nadia said, closing the door to the building. 

"What's the burning smell? a random kid had asked. Right as Nadia went to go see what he was talking about, Gabi came rushing into the building.

"The fire has jumped and we need to get the kids out of here." Gabi whispered to Nadia.

Nadia whistled trying to get kid's attention. "Okay. Kids I know all this is scary but we need to exit the building. Can y'all be brave for me and exit the building?" As someone was gathering up the kids out of the building, Nadia walked outside to see where the were putting the kids.

"We're gonna load the civilians into the bus with us and we're all gonna get the hell out of here." she heard Manny say to the guard. But the guard was quick to respond with, "We put the kids on the bus, but not with the inmates. It's too dangerous."

"Are you kidding me? It's dangerous? Their lives at risk and you are worried about something being a violation. Have you not seen the fire, it's dangerous." Nadia stated, walking closer to the guard and Manny. 

"And this one is getting bigger by the second while we stand around talking." Manny added. 

"Manny, I can't let them commingle." the guard said ignoring the girl.
