Carrington’s POV

We’re the Pogues. And our mission this summer? Simple have a good time, all the time.

"That’s what, like a three-story drop to the deck?" Pope asked, squinting up at John B. "I give you a one-in-three chance of survival."

John B leaned forward, wobbling slightly. “Hm... should I do it?”

“Yeah, jump,” Pope shot back, deadpan. “I’ll shoot you on the way down.”

“You’ll shoot me?”

Before Pope could answer, Kiara appeared out of nowhere with Kailani trailing behind her, both of them looking like they belonged in a Patagonia ad.

“They’re gonna have Japanese toilets with towel warmers,” Kie said randomly.

“Of course. Why wouldn’t they?” JJ muttered, not even phased.

I leaned over to Chase, who was beside me with a lazy grin, and whispered, “We should get those.”

“We totally should,” he agreed without missing a beat.

“This used to be a turtle habitat,” Kiara added, her tone going all activist again.

“But who cares about the turtles, I guess?” Lani chimed in with a shrug.

“Not me,” I said, raising my hand proudly.

“Shut up, Carrington,” the twins snapped in unison.

“So mean,” I pouted, crossing my arms dramatically. “Why does no one love me?”

“Aww, poor baby Carrington,” Tara teased with a grin, clearly enjoying herself.

“Can you please not kill yourself?” Kiara asked John B, eyeing him like a concerned mother as he started wobbling again now extra for the attention.

“Don’t spill that beer,” JJ warned, sipping from his own can like it was sacred. “I’m not giving you another one.”

And, right on cue, John B dropped his.

“Whoa! Oh, shit.” He and JJ said in sync, like it was rehearsed.

“You fucking suck, Johnny boy,” I said, laughing as I watched him stare down at the spilled beer like it had personally betrayed him.

“Don’t look me in the eyes,” he snapped back, dead serious. “You might blind me with those baby blues.”

I burst out laughing. “That’s your best one yet, man,” I said, giving him a playful grin.

Then Pope, ever the panic-prone soul, spoke up. “Hey, uh... security’s here.”

I glanced over and sure enough, a flashlight beam was sweeping across the lot. Classic Pope always worrying, always right.

“Uh oh, Chase, try not to fall like usual,” I said, jabbing him in the ribs as we all stood to scramble.

“I’m going to push you over,” he said without hesitation.

“You’ll already be on the ground when you try.”

“I hate you so much.”

“Then why live with me?”

“Can you two stop flirting?” Kiara cut in, clearly annoyed. “We have to go!”

We all waited forJohn B to climb down before running. JJ and Kiara led the charge, with Chase and me bringing up the rear.

JJ darted left and immediately realized there was another officer. “Wrong turn!” he yelled, sprinting back the other way.

Chase took the corner too sharp and wiped out hard. I couldn't help it I burst into laughter so hard I nearly tripped too. I helped him up while still laughing, then we took off again. We hopped the fence with ease Pope, of course, tripped and fell flat, and JJ looped back to yank him up.
