Ice Breaker

The next school week, Jinx laid low. She was...quiet. Too quiet for anyone else's comfort. She hadn't said a peep to anyone, except her friends in passing. She didn't pull a fast one on her English teacher Mr. Rides nor poke fun at her Science teacher, Mr. Buttz—you already know what the joke was. It was odd and slightly alarming to anyone who knew Jinx and her crazy antics.

As concerned as everyone was, no one dared to ask her about her sudden change in behavior. Instead, everyone went about their day as normal. The teachers were secretly happy about her sudden silence, finally catching a break from her potty mouth. Especially, Mr. Buttz. He was tired of the crude nicknames she called him daily. He would tell you what she called him, but due to his professional role, he didn't even want to repeat half the things she said.

It was Friday yet again, the day of their school's big hockey game versus the neighboring topside high school, Bridgewater. Specifically, the Bridgewater Beavers. Everyone disliked Bridgewater. Everyone who was anyone disliked them. They were smug elitists. Snobby brats who loved to flaunt their parents' cash. The majority of Bridgewater's population was made up solely of the council—and other various higher ups' —children within Piltover. Only the best of the best could enroll. In short, if you had the funds you were in. Jinx and her crew enjoyed referring to them as the Bongwater Bitches. They thought it suited their nasty attitude way more than the latter.

The last period bell was about to ring and for some reason Lux couldn't stop stealing glances at Jinx. She, as much as she hated her, couldn't help but wonder what was wrong with the girl. She felt slightly Stockholmed at the thought of her missing Jinx's harsh banter. It was integrated in her routine at this point. Get to school, say something mean, repeat. It felt almost wrong to be nice to her—if not saying anything at all meant being nice. Regardless, it was starting to freak her out.

Jinx took notice of Lux's glances.

What the fuck was she lookin' at?

Jinx thought to herself as she turned her body to the left, denying Lux the ability to see her face. Lux sneered her lip, mirroring her posture and turned her body to the right, gazing at the school's courtyard.

What is wrong with her?

The bell barely rang and Jinx was already out the door. From the corner of her eye, Lux caught a glimpse of blue as she stood up from her seat. She watched the tip of her braid disappear around the corner as she adjusted her white leather backpack strap on her shoulder. Lux huffed silently, collecting her matching in color binder from her desk. For some stupid reason, she was itching to know what happened to her. She has known Jinx for almost 6 years now and not once has she seen Jinx so...reserved? Surely, something bad must've happened. Why else would someone be so shut down? It made the most sense to her and everyone else. She almost felt bad for her.

Little did she know, Jinx was on the low on purpose. She and her crew managed to set up one of the biggest, scientific pranks she's done in a while. The best part? Everyone who was attending the hockey game would get the pleasure of viewing her work. What they did was simple, in theory, but it took quite a few steps to get it done right. Staying off the radar felt like the best thing to do. Plus, the tension in the air was palpable and she loved it.

Another added bonus to it all? The rumors. Jinx was enthralled by them.

Oh! Jinx's going through a break up! That's why they're so sad!

No way. She's nervous because she's going to jail!

Someone even said she was about to be expelled. That one made her laugh the hardest. She's been battling expulsion for years and yet she's still here. It was gonna take a lot more than that to get rid of her.
